Dear Jeff:

For students interested in history, especially the destruction of ancient society's by volcano, they need look no further than books like "The Last Days Of Pompeii." There is also a Hollywood film about another volcano tragedy that wiped out entire civilizations coming out later this year. It does seem rather a shame that these disasters happen, but it's part of living on the planet Earth. Just as the typhoon killed many in the Philippines, disasters will always befall humanity. The idea is to learn from them & avoid becoming a victim of one if it happens. Being a student of history means learning not how a population died, but how it chose to live when it existed.

Mount Vesuvius,

Rory
