March VIIth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Fans of Major Dr. Charles Emerson Winchester The IIIrd were especially sad to hear of his, aka: actor David Ogden Stiers passing of bladder cancer at his home in Newport, Oregon last Saturday at just 75 years old. Having faced bladder issues myself & having had to have a portion of my small bowel attached to my bladder as a second bladder to make it operate properly, I can sympathize with Maj. Winchester's condition. The Major in the meanwhile was a great friend to Cowtown as he once promoted "the world famous Calgary Stampede" while on surgical duty as part of the M*A*S*H 4077th Army Hospital in the Korean conflict President Harry Truman, Democratic-Missouri "police action" (war.) Here Charles helps a concert pianist learn how to play pieces with the use of one hand when he loses the use of one due to shrapnel from a battle. He teaches the soldier/musician that his life as a musician doesn't have to end. Oregonians & Illinoisans (Dave's birth state) are sad now, as are Bostonians & his fellow Harvard alumni!
