"A House Divided Against itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Poloquin

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Calgary, Alberta

October XXXIst, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We travel back to Maine & get an opinion from Congressman Bruce Poliquin on finding financial savings for students so they can get on their feet faster. As his father was a school principal, getting students on a sound financial setting quicker Bruce points out will allow them to start becoming contributing taxpayers & citizens of Maine, thus able to then start their own families.

"My father, a former school principal often said that a good education can lead to a better job, higher salary, & more opportunities."

Waterville,

Rory

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In this the riding of Calgary-Centre federally, we congratulate the new MP-Elect, Liberal Kent Hehr on his victory. Since its All Hallows Eve, it is our sincere hope at Executive Dissertations that Kent doesn't get too "spooked" out by the Ottawa & does the best he can for Calgary-Centre residents & their families as Justin Trudeau, B. A., B. Ed., MP-Elect, Liberal-Papineau our new Prime Minister-Designate tries to steer the country through these hard economic times. Kent predicted he'd win & as the Liberal Party Of Canada In Alberta was "The Night Of The Walking Dead" with no MPs for XLVII (47) years, I truly wish Kent much success!

Boogity-Boo,

Rory

October XXXIst, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

On the "check swing", we have Congressman Cedric Richmond of Louisiana demonstrating good humor to baseball fanatics & their families alike about a surgery he needs for an injury to his pitchingarm. With The World Series (TM) of Major League Baseball (MLB) raging right now & with The Dominion Of Canada's Toronto Blue Jays just eliminated from contention, we get Cedric to "play ball" with us & chat about his injury & the Congressional Baseball Game where party's from both sides of the aisle come together once a year & put aside their differences to play for charity. Not that Cedric the pitched doesn't think that the GOP wouldn't try & take advantage of his injured pitching arm politically so they can win future games.

"I suspect some Republicans are going to be excited when they see me walking around in a sling."

Rory

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Guthrie

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

October XXXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

An important aspect of being a Member of Congress or any elected position for that matter is "face time" with constituents & their families. Whether they voted for you or against you, as their elected representative, you are looking after the interests of all of the people of your area or in this case "Congressional District." So we at Executive Dissertations get Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky to explain how much he enjoys the process in "Town Halls" or personal meetings with residents.

"It is an honor to represent Kentucky's Second District & I look forward to hearing what's on the mind of my fellow Kentuckians. There are so many issues in the news today & I think its important to provide an opportunity to discuss them."

Rory

October XXXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins of Kansas is all fired up about the issue of human trafficking. What with the refugee crisis having unscrupulous people selling spaces to transport migrants around the world, this makes sense. Lynn getting legislation passed to try & prevent it is good as many of the people who are refugees could be sold into say slavery or prostitution, including children.

"Human trafficking is a growing epidemic that happens around the world including right here in America, including an arrest in Lawrence that took place just a few weeks ago. Today, I'm pleased Congress took action to bring the victims of human trafficking out of the shadows, & enable us to better secure justice for its victims. This bill is not the end, but it is a strong step towards providing better care for the victims of human trafficking & ending this unspeakable practice of trafficking once & for all."

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Dr. Loebsack

October XXIXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Democratic Congressman David Loebsack of Iowa welcomes the new Speaker Paul Ryan, Republican-Wisconsin with the gavel from across the aisle by talking about choices. Just as it was Former Speaker John Boehner, Republican-Ohio who chose of his own free will to step down & the House GOP caucus's choice to elect Speaker Ryan as their new boss in the chamber, David asks Americans to make a choice on how they can give American veterans the best education possible so that they can serve their country well in their post-military years!

"As a former college educator, I know firsthand the positive impact post-secondary education & job training can have for out veterans."

October XXVIIIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In this the final edition of The "Premier"e League, Executive Dissertations thought it would be fitting to sit down with Premier Kathleen Wynne of Ontario, Canada's most populous province & get a remark on immigration. What with the Syrian refugee crisis & my father being an immigrant from The Netherlands, I am very interested to hear what Kathleen has to say on how immigration might make things better for both the immigrants & Ontario families in the context of how helping the refugees by taking them would eventually make them positive contributors to Canada once they adapt to their new surroundings & thus improve our already rich cultural mosaic.

"We have a reputation because of our history & because of who we are--because we're made up of wave after wave of immigrants."

October XXVIIIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In the process of giving exactly equal time to all sides of the political aisle, Executive Dissertations shows that just like her Democratic counterpart in our last entry, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski of Indiana is hard at work at presenting equal opportunities for all students of all economic standards at a quality education. Here, Jackie gives a reflective comment on the matter.

"One of the great blessings in America is the ability is for anyone, no matter economic background or history, to work hard & succeed. As the first person in my family to attend college, I know firsthand the transformative power of education. I believe every child in America should have access to a high-quality education in a safe & welcoming environment."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave;

Today, we get Congresswoman Robin Kelly of Illinois to explain her happiness that she got a grant through a program called STEM for a college in her district named Olive-Harvey College for low-income & minority students that will give them an equal chance at a quality education. This is great of Robin to get these funds as these minority students will become taxpayers faster once they graduate & obtain employment.

"I applaud the college for working to increase the participation of Blacks & Latinos in the STEM  fields."

Dear Dave:

Congressman Mike Simpson of Idaho checks in with a remark on the ever rising costs of health care for Idaho residents & their families. A dentist by profession, Mike knows what he is talking about.

Dear Dave:

Here at Executive Dissertations, we try to show not just the professional, but the personal side of politicians & their quotes. Here, Congresswoman Tulsi Gibbard of Hawaii went back home earlier this year to pick up a husband. She got a really great guy in Abraham Williams in a picturesque Hindu ceremony & now has a start on her family unit. Let us have Tulsi explain her happiness shall we.

"It was a deeply spiritual, traditional ceremony that held great meaning for Abraham & I. It brought all the important elements of our life together."

Dear Dave;

With the irresponsible budgeting by your predecessor Progressive Conservative governments & your continuation of it in tomorrow's under the Hon. Joe Ceci, B. S. W., M. S. Dear Dave;

And so it has finally come to pass that the very lovely & legendary actress Academy Award (TM) Winner (& proud Irish emigrant) Maureen O'Hara has died at the grand old age of XCV (95) in her home in Idaho. I mean just how in in a bloody Irish IV (4) Leaf Clover do you celebrate such a career & relay that to students who may be interested in the acting game? Well you do it in Maureen's own words on the friendships that you develop in Hollywood. Many are phony, but Maureen encapsulates a true friendship & bond with her very best pal Academy Award (TM) Winner John "The Duke" Wayne.

"I was tough. I was tall. I was strong. I didn't take any nonsense from anybody. He was tough, he was tall, he was strong & he didn't take any nonsense from anybody. As a man & a human being, I adored him."

Dear Dave:

Senator John Thune of The Artesian State of South Dakota asks people to consider his point on the matter of growing up in a truly "educated" household as both his parents taught. As a result, this puts education up really high in terms of importance for the Senator.

"Growing up in Murdo as a son of two educators, I understand the challenges communities across South Dakota face in ensuring a high quality education for all students."

October XXIIIrd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

With this pictured quote from professional gamer & Congressman Jared Polis of Colorado, Executive Dissertations explains about the "game dynamic" in politics to his gaming students. He is talking about a game called "League Of Legends", but really, the whole dynamic of politics is to "play the game" because what it is really is a chess match. Back & forth, up & down, right to left, every angle possible. You as a political office holder have to react cased on what your opponent does. Basically what our leaders had to against once another in the extended XI (11) week recent election here in The Dominion Of Canada.

Dear Dave:

Executive Dissertations sincerely apologizes to Congresswoman Diana DeGette of Colorado as my computer somehow crashed & didn't put out my entry on her before when I first typed it. So I call upon Diana to give us some words of wisdom on the matter of stopping Coloradans & young Americans from taking up smoking. Alas she frames it in the format of not just being a Congresswoman, but as a mother. I bring it up b/c anti-tobacco flavoured format was & is a hallmark legislative plank of the Hon. Sarah Hoffman, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Health, New Democratic, Edmonton-Glenora.

"More Americans will die this year from smoking related illnesses than lost their lives defending our freedom in World War II. As a mother, I see it as my duty to help protect the health of our young people. If we can save the lives of over 200,000 people by raising the minimum age to buy tobacco products; that is not only smart policy, it is our moral obligation."

"The Government of the North West Territories (GWNT) is committed to turning Northern potential into prosperity for its residents & all Canadians. Dear Dave:

On this Election Day here in The Dominion Of Canada:

- I strongly encourage folks to bring children & grandchildren & cousins & nieces & nephews to the polling stations with them when they vote. This will get them excited about the democratic process & more likely to want to vote themselves.

- I strongly encourage as many first time student voters age XVIII (18) & over who can votes for the Ist time to actually do so. In this way, its ingrained in their system that voting is what keeps the democratic process strong.

- I strongly encourage teachers to let students write up their questions to Elections Canada on the voting process & send them in.

Dear Dave:

We see that Congresswoman Martha Roby of Alabama is excited about her state's student intern program. So she should be indeed! An Editor's Note: Although Martha is a Republican or "right" leaning in philosophy, for transparency I have placed her in the centre with her student interns in order to ensure neutrality as I have no way of knowing the party affiliation of her interns. Nor should they officially have one when they are interning for a Member of Congress rather than in a campaign setting.

"I want to thank Brandon & D.H. for their internships in my D.C. office. Congressional interns get to experience firsthand how our government works, while also learning skills that can be valuable in the career that they pursue. Dear Dave:

As he grasps the arm here of retiring Congressman & Speaker John Boehner, current Congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin has to weigh his political options as to whether he feels that he wants to be the next Speaker Of The U.S. House Of Represenatives when Mr. Boehner retires on October XXXth. Paul knows the political game well & must orate the idea to family, friends, colleagues, & political science students about whether he has the stamina to go for the top job! Paul was the Vice-Presidential Candidate on the Republican side under Presidential Candidate & Former Governor Mitt Romney, Republican-Massachusetts. So he has been in "the big game" or the hunt for a higher political job before. This time it would be for the top job of the "legislative" branch rather than that of the "executive" branch! Dear Dave:

Senator Heidi Heitkamp of The Rough Rider State of North Dakota looks at the issue of promoting healthy work environments for kids & what better way to do that then by promoting "Take Our Daughters & Sons To Work Day?" In this way, school kids learn about career options from parents &/or parental figures or peer group leaders.

"As children, kids see their parents leave for work each day without fully understanding what it is they do. Through the Take Our Daughters & Sons To Work Program, hundreds of thousands of children have the opportunity to see what jobs & possible career paths from those who they admire most-their parents."

Dear Dave:

The American Territory of American Samoa & its Independent Governor Lolo Letalu Matalasi Moliga discuss the importance of having proper financing in place. What with Alberta's multi-billion $ debt, American Samoa also has a huge debt & is facing the same problem in getting budgets passed & just like here in Alberta (& worldwide), budgets are being delayed & many costs that are supposed to be paid for by the government are in fact being offloaded onto students & their families. Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Today, I ask Congressman David McKinley of West Virginia for his opinion on how to deal with coal ash & how to safely dispose of it. Proper recycling practices & environmental standards must be followed. At the same time, the over 300 thousand jobs for coal mining sector workers must also be looked after. These miners work very hard & many have been laid off, as a result, its harder for them to support their spouses & children. An engineer by trade, perhaps David could engineer a solution in this matter. The issue matters here with all of the Albertan & Canadian coal mines that have been shut down.

"The Senate must act soon on the strong bipartisan support shown here today & give peace of mind to the 316,000 workers relying on the coal ash recycling industry."

October XVIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In a previous blog post on a Republican Congressman here at Executive Dissertations, we featured his opinion as to being against or "pro-life" on abortion. Now, following that glorious program "The McLaughlin Group" & its philosophy of exactly equal time to both sides of the argument, we step to the abortion debate again by asking Congresswoman Suzan Delbene to explain why she is for or "pro-choice" on abortion. Again, I have no stance on this matter. All I am doing to you is presenting the arguments pro & con, or "just the facts" of the topic as stated by the participants in a Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department manner of fashion (which makes sense as today is Friday.) Suzan frames her argument as a womens health issue in the contextualization of how it might affect both themselves, their unborn child or children, their chilidren already born, & their spousal relationship.

"H. R. 7 is yet another attack on women & families. It creates sweeping new restrictions on abortion coverage for women who purchase insurance under The Affordable Care Act - with no meaningful exception to protect a woman's health. And experts predict that it would cause many insurers to limit women's health options in their plans altogether."

As Co-Chairman of a Sportmens & Sportswomens Committee, Congressman Rob Wittman of Virginia is well positioned since he is in the "game of politics", which is bloodsport in & of itself. Here Rob talks about his hopes for Virginian students. A strong hope that many politicians should have.

"I believe that preparing young people with the skills & knowledge to compete in a global economy requires an increased focus on science, technology, engineering & math."

Dear Dave:

The solitary Vermont Congressman Peter Welch has the right idea in Committee (just as important as House Chamber proceedings) on helping Vermonters get there children into quality & affordable education. Having married two different women (with his first wife Joan dying of cancer) with VIII (8) kids in total, Pete is a great stepfather & so wants to see Vermont & American students get educated. Whether they be from a biological, blended, or adoptive family! This is a superb goal!

"At the same time, institutions of higher learning must do their part to bring costs under control & ensure that ever-increasing college costs are not outpacing the ability of middle class families to pay for them."

October XVth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We turn now to The Flickertail State of North Dakota & Senator John Hoeven. John talks about his desire for less expensive flood insurance for families. With many claims & lives of families destroyed still & not settled from the MMXIII floods in southern Alberta, the Senator's point is relevant here. Especially when you consider that many Albertan family's can't get any flood insurance coverage, let alone affordable coverage.

"These projects are often done in phases, so flood maps & insurance rates should be coordinated with each phase of the project & adjusted downward on the new protections that are put in place. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) needs to do this in all North Dakota communities, which are working hard to build robust flood protection. It makes a real difference for the families & businesses that live & work in these communities."

Peace Garden State,

Rory

Source: Senator John Hoeven, Class 3, Republican-North Dakota.

An Editor's Note: There is no way to know whether North Dakota or South Dakota is actually the XXXIXth (39th) State of the Union as the bills signing them into law as States were signed in secret by President Benjamin Harrison, Republican-Indiana on November IInd, MDCCCLXXXIX (2nd, 1889) & he kept the paperwork secret as to their order, even after his death. So I put North Dakota first for alphabetical purposes, but South Dakota could have been signed into law as a State first. I just have no way of finding out.

Dear Dave;

From the great state of Texas we have Congressman Louie Gohmert wondering aloud about the Speaker Of The House Of Representatives having at points too much power. The issue is relevant here in The Dominion Of Canada & our Federal Election political science students will make note as for many years, Canadians have been complaining that the Office Of The Prime Minister has been usurping too much power. Thus leaving regular MPs with less power & less of an ability to do things that they were elected to accomplish for their constituents in Parliament.

"Throughout Congressional history, there appear to be ongoing periods of greater & greater centralization of power in the Speaker of the House. Eventually, it becomes too destructive & someone or some people step up to decentralize the power."

Rory

Doctor & Congressman Phil Roe of Tennessee explains the evils of opioids & drug use, & the way they can quite often lead to addiction. Dear Dave:

Congresswoman Kristi Noem of South Dakota, sits down for a chat with Executive Dissertations & make a few remarks about agriculture & family farming. As her state's only representative, Kristi brings a first hand knowledge to the matter since she & her family ranch & farm. What with those poor three sisters dying on a farm in Central Alberta today, this Federal Election here in The Dominion Of Canada shows just how important the agricultural sector is to the economy & how we must strive to keep farm workers & family's safe.

"I was born & raised on a farm in rural Hamlin County in northeastern South Dakota & went on to take over the farming & ranching operation in my 20's. I understand just how critical this industry is to our state & what impact it has on families, rural communities, & South Dakota's larger cities alike."

Steve Harper, PC, Conservative Candidate, Calgary-Heritage & his government have been shafting Canadian veterans!

Dear Dave:

I am thankful to Premier Paul Davis of Newfoundland & Labrador this Canadian Thanksgiving Monday for getting the point across that more needs to be done for missing aboriginal women & children, as well as victims of sexual assault in general. Paul, having worked in the past as a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary & Minister of Childrens Services is right on the ball that Premiers need to work to get this done & not just promise to do so why a Federal Election is on in The Dominion Of Canada!

Dear Dave:

On this Canadian Thanksgiving Monday, Congressman Mark Sanford of South Carolina is thankful for second chances. Despite having an affair that cost him his marriage outright & broke up his family unit, the Congressman (who used to be the Congressman for the same seat & the South Carolinian Governor when news of his tryst broke out) won his old seat back. Here Mark explains just how ecstatic his "comeback from the political grave" feels.

The Great Schools Of Ward G-Clara Tyner School

October XIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As we venture over to Clara Tyner Elementary School, we give thanks that Principal Connie Spasiuk is so focused on getting attention to students in Kindergarten so quickly. In this Kindergarten through Grade Six facility, students are taught the values of being responsible, looking after their physical well-being, using their creative thoughts to come up with positive ideas, being a part of a true community, & to really be excited about literacy & learning. Wow, talk about a true road map of learning excellence!

- Clara Tyner field trips are great because they teach healthy adult & student bonding. Plus, the parents get to act as mentors as they jointly enjoy the learning adventure with their children!

- Clara Tyner is big on promoting good character development in it students. Truly admirable, as character traits that are good can lead to positive developments later in life such as career choices!

- Upon opening in MCMLXVI (1966), Clara Tyner was the first school in the Edmonton Public Division to be named after a woman. This was & is a great development for female accomplishment & equality!

Dear Dave:

Congressman David Cicilline of Rhode Island is on the front lines of the battle to keep women & children who are homeless due to battering &/or abusive circumstances have a safe place to go. Sad these places are needed, but its a fact of life & David has got the right idea to help!

"This new home for Lucy's Hearth will ensure that Rhode Island's homeless population can get the critical support & transitional housing services they need. I applaud Lucy's Hearth on more than three decades of serving our state's homeless women & children, & I congratulate them on this important milestone."

October XIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We have a rather solid performer here in Avonmore Elementary-Junior High School. We can give thanks that Principal Lil Rueck & her amazing academic team have a huge focus on healthy physical activities for Avonmore students. Grades Kindergarten through nine are given soccer, rugby, volleyball, & pep rally initiatives among others. This healthy physical philosophy only serves to sharpen the cognition levels of students in the classrooms!

- Avonmore is huge in the promotion of its School Safety Patrols. This is wonderful because if students & family & visitors are safe, they'll be more relaxed & thus able to concentrate on their studies.

- The Nellie McClung Program at Avonmore lets students discover their hidden talents & learn to build relationships & friendships that will help them in the future. Plus its "all girls" Junior High focus lets young ladies feel secure in the knowledge that they are equal to men in every way! A great idea indeed for a program!

- Avonmore staff are encouraged to teach the students to become ethical & engaged learners! This wonderful philosophy will make students of Avonmore valued & productive members of society throughout their lives!

Dear Dave:

We raise a glass in toast with Congressman Bob Brady of Pennsylvania to help celebrate this Canadian Thanksgiving weekend this fine Sunday weekend in which citizens of The Dominion Of Canada have the right to vote in Advance Polls for our Federal Election. Bobby, who along with our American friends & good neighbours celebrates American Thanksgiving on the IVth Thursday in November is on the case of helping students both in PA & here in Canada have the best education system possible in the class setting itself. This will be very helpful to students who go back to school this coming Tuesday after a nice long weekend with their families.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

I get the sense that the lone Congressman Kevin Cramer of North Dakota might have an interest in speaking about moving legislation on education forward from the U.S. Senate to the U.S. House with agreed upon adjustments & then over to President Barack Obama, Democratic-Hawaii (Kenya) for his signature to make it law. Its great Kevin is providing a lesson in the legislative process to the students of his state & around the world.

"After the Senate acted last week, today we moved quickly in the House to agree to their changes & move the bill forward to the President's desk. This final version gives certainty to parents & students who have been waiting on Washington to plan their education & household budgets, & will undo the rate increase that took place on July Ist (1st.) I expect the President will sign this quickly so we can tackle larger problems like the rising cost of tuition & student debt."
