The Freedom Of Protest

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.
#6, 14504-108 Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

November XXXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

I fervently agree with the farmers against your government's Bill VI (6.) While the thought process behind giving farm workers WCB benefits who get hurt is good, the way the bill is constructed piss poor, almost childlike. It would be better if you redrafted. I am also glad the farming families are taking advantage to protest this bill. Its a great constitutional right. Maybe coal mining family's should do the same. Grant Notley would have never taken away union jobs by shutting down mines!

Coal Fever,

The Assembly Has Had A Sad Week

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

November XXVIIIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Lost in the shuffle of Manmeet Bhullar's violent & tragic death was the fact that another great person died. Former Edmonton-Millwoods Liberal MLA from MMIV-MMVIII (2004-2008), Mrs. Weslyn Mather. In the process of "exactly = time for all sides" of the spectrum that I painstakingly practice here, I feel its only appropriate to pay homage to Weslyn whose late & great husband Dick Mather was an Edmonton City Councillor who like Manmeet, died while in office. Weslyn while stuck on wheels was an advocate for quality school arts programs & encouraging creativity in students. A psychologist & school administrator Weslyn really had insight into education at the ground level & at just LXX (70) years old will be sorely missed indeed.

"Fine arts are not secondary - There is lots of research to support the need for the creative side of education. Education is preparation for life, citizenship, thoughtfulness, engagement in community & society & fine arts in society are crucial in meeting these objectives. The arts are not less important than science or any other academic subject. It is not a frill & not a luxury."

I Will Miss This Fine Lady,

Rory

While I don't agree or disagree with your new legislation to make collective bargaining between your government, the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA), & teacher bargaining unions, I certainly applaud you for trying to make negotiation more cohesive. Let us hope for the best all around as you try this new structure Dave!

"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Mike Enzi

November XXVIth, MMXV

Hon Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Senator Mike Enzi of The Equality State of Wyoming asks us to listen to him as he emphasizes a point about making sure folks know that he supports giving disabled kids a proper education. As the late MLA Manmeet Bhullar was of minority status & Weslyn Mather was wheelchair bound, this is something they'd back. And on this American Thanksgiving we can all be thankful for that!

"I strongly support legislation that offers support for the education of students with disabilities."

A Life Ended Too Quickly

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

November XXIIIrd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

How do you sum up a life that ended way too quickly? Having just seen Manmeet Bhullar, B. A., LL. B., MLA, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Greenway last week when I was having a cup of tea in the Alberta Legislature Cafeteria, I am quite stunned & saddened that I will never get to chat with him again. I mean I shook his hand. My condolences to his widow, his family, his friends, & all of his legislative colleagues past & present. All I can do is write up a quote from Manmeet himself on helping people, the very thing he was doing when he was killed on Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth The IInd Highway earlier today.

"If families feel they have been wronged, or just want to celebrate the life of a young person, they should have the right to do so."

And So We Celebrate The Life Of This Young Person Manmeet Bhullar: Just XXXV (35) Years, A Very Well Lived Life,

November XXIIIrd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congressman James Langevin of Rhode Island heads on into his Committee work to look at the issue of cyber security. He got Rhode Island students to participate in a cyber challenge to help them understand & listen to their ideas on preventing cyber attacks. As a result, they gain confidence in computer skills.

"In 2010, the US Cyber Challenge launched the High School Cyber Challenge to test the computer networking skills of students, while introducing them to the growing field of information technology. I am pleased that Rhode Island was one of the first states to take part in this competition, which tests student skills in important foundations of effective cyber security."

Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

November XXIInd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

I would like to see more on site education for seniors in extended care. Not just shut-ins being always stuck in their residences. No, quick trips for these fine folks to be in schools with youth for say II or III hour visits. This will do both sides a world of good & make these elderly & forgotten Albertans feel useful again. It would be low cost & just two or three times a month. But it would help bridge the generation.

November XXth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Having personally attended the ceremony earlier today where the Transgender Awareness Flag to stop transphobia was raised on one of the north Legislature Grounds flagpoles, I can attest to what a great ceremony this was. Due to a slight fall at my home I was in pain in my back & my leg & had to sit down to alleviate the pain, so it was great that no one made fun of me for bringing a folding chair to the ceremony. A truly remarkable people is the "Trans" community indeed!

Say listen, I don't have any contact information for Trans community spokesperson Ms. Caitlyn Jenner. If anyone in Edmonton's LGBTQ community could set it up & make the contact, I would like to see if we could get Caitlyn to march in Edmonton's Gay Pride Parade next year on Whyte Avenue as Parade Marshal. Perhaps some of her children & stepchildren could come along.

Perhaps the very esteemed Dr. Kristopher Wells of the University Of Alberta Institute For Sexual Minority Studies could get in on this. As I have no way of suggesting the idea to Ms. Jenner herself, I just leave the idea out there for Gay & Straight & Trans students to make the reach out say through a letter by a group of students in the Gay/Straight Alliance After School Clubs.

Transfixed,

Rory

So lets get on this for Alberta kids who need good adoptive homes! Plus the girls are Cherokee First Nation members like their newly adoptive daddy so he can share that culture with them!

November XIVth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Here in Calgary we have one of the twin jewels of scientific endeavours: The Telus Spark Centre! I of course being down here with family this weekend love the fact that the Telus World Of Science Edmonton is right by my abode. Both are superb places to take children of all ages who are interested in exploring fascinating & aspects of science, medicine, history, & many other topic areas. A valuable asset towards giving students a stimulating education & a fun family experience every day, but especially on weekends when they are not in a school classroom setting!

- The Brainasium is a great play to learn & play. It allows children an area to play & start to socialize with other kids. As a result, they are learning people skills!

- The Creative Kids Museum lets kids design their own inventions & build them. Plus children who like the idea of trying out their inventions can do so in a fun & in "real time" setting!

- The Earth & Sky Gallery is wonderful as it lets children see how weather patterns develop & make their own simulations so they can understand why weather affects the planet & vice versa!

Dear Dave:

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers of North Carolina is on the march for residents of her state on the matter of breast cancer. This makes great sense as millions of both men & women die from it, young & old, rich or poor. Plus as Renee is a nurse by profession she can use her vote to improve the lives of cancer patients & their families. The famous late announcer of "The Price Is Right" from CBS Television City, in Los Angeles, California, a Mr. Rod Roddy being a prime example of a male death from this horrid disease!

Dear Dave:

In committee we have the Chairman & Congressman Peter T. King of New York working hard on education. In the game of politics & as well as in checkers, the object is to get to the other side & "King Me" as many pieces of your own so that you control the game. Thus, eventually hoping to win it, this is the same premise with Peter works by in his committee work as he diligently tries to pass legislation for students & their families. As its the Homeland Security Committee we ask Pete to make a comment on keeping folks safe, this makes sense as New York was one of the main targets on IX/XI (9/11.)

Dear Dave:

We must turn to Senator Patty Murray of The Evergreen State of Washington for a discussion on the many different political offices that United States Senate Chamber & how her experience in education can help her make sound educational decisions on policy on behalf of students in her state. On this solemn occasion of Remembrance/Veterans Day, I cannot get down to Washington State to talk to the Senator in person, plus its also my XLIst (41st) birthday so besides attending Remembrance services today, I have birthday supper plans with relatives tonight. Dear Dave:

Jobs & the economy are the focus of Congressman Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey. What seems to bug Francis the most are all the good working parents of his state who have been thrown out of full time jobs & put into part time work instead, many of these part time jobs don't offer any benefits to workers or their families. So what we at Executive Dissertations want to here from Frank on is how to encourage businesses to invest in New Jersey itself again. The same situation has occurred here in the Alberta economy what with the energy sector slowdown so readers can understand Frank's frustration.

Dear Dave:

The perspective on teacher pay by Congressman Mark Amodei of Nevada is quite interesting. Many teachers here in Alberta are great, but many are also clearly overpaid & their administrative head, the Alberta Teachers Association is clearly spending too much of its wage negotiation wins on salaries & teachers benefits, rather than on students in the classroom. We have two bargaining groups for nurses, the Alberta Nurses Association & the Provincial Nurses of Alberta so why not break up the ATA as its way too powerful &?! This would make teachers more accountable to Alberta students & their families!

Dear Dave:

Senator Steve Daines of The Land Of The Shining Mountains State of Montana enunciates on the importance of spending monies to guarantee that rural areas of his state & those of other states survive. Much as the recent Alberta election split our province on an rural & urban divide, we cannot forget rural students because farming & rural communities built this province & the monies from them allowed urban centres to develop. Dear Dave:

As my cat James Redwing Cat Koopmans is a member of another party & Leader of the Alberta New Democatic Party, he & I can appurrciate that its not right that the Ms. Stephanie McLean, B. A., J. D., MLA, New Democratic, Calgary-Varsity is purrscriminated against by old male dinosaurs like Ric McIver, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Hays just because she has become pregnant while in office. Ric should get off his high horse & instead congratulate the member & hope she has a healthy child.

As you can see from this campaign period picture that J. R. Cat showed me, Stephanie is great with creatures of all kinds & will make a wonderful mother. As a result, I liked J. R. Cat's thinking on providing a safe & proper child care space. J. R. along with Former Premier Alison Redford, LL. B., QC has purrgested that the SkyPalace of offices be made into a daycare space for MLAs & other staffers. With its private access, complete home fixtures & elevator access, it would purrvide a safe & warming environment as a daycare with easy access for all new parents. Plus, Mr. Stephanie the Baby Daddy & any other child care providers could be there with their child with their child(ren) while their spouses (in this this case Stephanie) attends to their duties as an MLA.

Plus, it would be a great place for Stephanie to "pump" in case she couldn't be there in person to breastfeed, say when a vote or a debate measure is on. I, as a single furrther to James Redwing Cat believe that its a case of gender to the mother & parental to the child purrscrimination not to have such a space allotted & that we should allows these youngsters to grow up with two parents as much as possible in their formative years. Just Stephanie as a mom has to live in Edmonton rather than Calgary a few months a year to be an MLA doesn't make it right that she cannot be as full time a parent as possible whilst still holding the office of MLA & discharging the duties of that said office!

An Editor's Note: Ric McIver & Wayne Drysdale, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Grande Prairie-Wapiti shouldn't have any objections since both of them (neither of them) cancelled the SkyPalace in the first place!

"A House Divided Against Itself Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Kline

November Vth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

We have the very loyal Congressman John Kline of Minnesota talking to military cadets & Minnesotans on the concept of able & loyal service. Having served "The Gipper", that great American President Ronald Reagan, Republican-California in a military capacity & retiring as a full Colonel with awards & medals of distinction & now in Congress as a civilian, John knows exactly what he is talking about.

"I am a 25-year marine. Loyalty means everything, & I appreciate your partnership & will never forget your help."

"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Jon Tester

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

November IVth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Don't "test" the patience of Senator Jon Tester of The Treasure State of Montana. Jon points out to young girls & women that they can be just as valuable assets in terms of military service as any man. This is great to hear from a positive male leader for females (such as students) to take in! What with The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, B. A., B. Ed., PC, MP, Liberal, Papineau & XXIIIrd Prime Minister Of The Dominion Of Canada having close to gender parity in his first cabinet starting today, & The Hon. Rachel Notley, B. A., LL. B., MLA, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona & XVIIth Premier of Alberta also having as close to gender parity as possible: its nice to see that Jon as a male & the Senior Senator of Alberta's direct neighbour to the south has a positive perspective on this issue. Equal rights for women in government & in both civilian & combat at all levels & no face coverings & NO SHARIA LAW!

"For years, women have played a critical role in our combat missions & have sacrificed a great deal on our behalf. We should honor their service & bravery. I will never tell them that they can't get the job done."

Rory

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Huizenga

November IIIrd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congressman Bill Huizenga of Michigan wants to tell readers of Executive Dissertations his ideas on school choice by parents. Something advocated for by Edmonton Public Schools (EPSB) & other Alberta school divisions.

"When a school is not the best fit for a child, parents should have the flexibility to choose the school that best meets their child's needs."

"Will The Senator Yield The Floor?"-Mike Rounds

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Calgary, Alberta

November IInd, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Newly sworn in this past January XVth, Senator Mike Rounds of The Blizzard State of South Dakota focuses his energy on community banks & the fact that local financing can be a truly strong economic indicator of growth in any market. Students interested in accounting or finance should pay heed to the Senator as he wants to keep local banks due to the corrupt financiers on New York City's Wall Street. He also wants to avoid going extra "Rounds" with more bad loans & credit swaps. As the Senator was not in power when the MMVII & MMVII corruption & bad loans & debts were happening he is seen as being free of any chance being possibly corrupted & in league with the bankers.

"Small community banks don't thinks of banking in terms of "derivatives" & "default swaps" like they do on Wall Street; they think of banks in terms of they can best serve their communities-their friends, neighbors, store owners & job providers."

"A House Divided Against itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. McGovern

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Calgary, Alberta

November Ist, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts is on the warpath to end hunger. What with all of the wasted food & starving folks like refugees say from Syria & folks in slavery, Jimmy's efforts in the House are truly appreciated. In fact, he has organized a conference to end hunger this past Friday, October XXXth at the University Of Massachusetts At Amherst. "Food For Good" is a great way to get post-secondary students & their families involved to help those less fortunate & as James points out especially with the poor global economy, there is much hunger.

"Hunger is something that touches so many families every day here in Massachusetts & across the country."

Rory

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Ruppersberger

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Calgary, Alberta

November Ist, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland takes the motto of "shock & awe" quite seriously. As he was injured badly by a horrible car accident, Dutch wants to give back to the Shock Trauma Centre at The University Of Maryland Hospital that saved him. Many victims of violent incidents (including children) can suffer from shock after a traumatic incident. So this is really great. It also proves the old adage that "if you ain't "Dutch", you ain't much!"

"I am honored to give back to the hospital that gave me so much-my life. The doctors, nurses, & technicians at Shock Trauma saved my life after I was seriously injured after a terrible car accident over thirty years ago. This new lab will give medical personnel at Shock Trauma as well as our servicemen & women even more tools to save lives in the future."

Baltimore,

Rory
