The Horizontal Mambo

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXXIst, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

While sexually based offences such as human trafficking are considered especially heinous, in my capacity as a provincially licensed security officer & bar bouncer, I cannot help but feel the need to want to keep the women & men who come into bars that I work at who offer sexual services safe & that extends out to massage parlours. As The City Of Edmonton licenses these "body rub" or "adult exotic massage" facilities, I feel that it is not just the responsibility of the owners & staff to be kept safe, but of the taxpayers as well.

I. Many of the personages who work in these establishments are voters, quite often single, but sometimes in relationships who are working parents who enter the trade to put a roof over their kids heads. Yes its a risky business & there should be health overseers & more regular health & safety inspections of these said facilities that bring concerns forward to YEG City Council.

II. I however would like to see a different & more progressive & inclusive approach. I would like to see the City Council, or at least a committee of council established to meet directly with the massage & sex trade workers once a year in person, or twice if required. No judgments for their chosen lifestyle, no disrespect. It could be done at City Hall, or at say a coffee shop or a meeting hall in one of the wards, rotating location each & every time.

III. Who are we to judge these people? We are no one! After all, the City grants them business licenses & they do have to get licenses as massage therapists with actual courses behind them. As a result, I feel we should treat massage & sex trade workers with the ultimate of respect & not demean them. They are after all human beings like anyone else.

"A House Divided Against Itself Cannot Stand!"-Mr. Cooper

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXXth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

A big issue here in the Ward XII byelection race is the immigrant populace. This makes sense because of the higher concentration of people from the Muslim, Sikh, Hindu & other faiths here within the ward boundaries. Here Congressman Jim Cooper of Tennessee comments on immigration & how to strike the right balance for the refugees coming in while at the same time protecting the rights of citizens already here. Something the Federal government & its private partners need to work on here in Canada with mayors, councilors, & reeves from many municipalities as evidenced by all of the problems in bringing in the Syrian refugees so far, the system is whether progressives like to admit it or not, is very broken up here to.

"America is a nation of immigrants, & I support comprehensive immigration reform. We can find balance to fix our broken system & protect our nation."

R. Joey Koopmans, Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXIXth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

A reminder for citizens & especially candidates in this Civic Byelection from Elections Edmonton to never, ever offer or take bribes or their could be severe consequences, including jail time. Its especially immoral Dave if anyone sells their votes at election time! As a candidate several times for office, I can truly say that I have never done either & that we must instill in students interested in the democratic process just how wrong it is. A man of rather upstanding character, A Mr. Darth Vader of The Gallatic Empire has agreed to appear in a court of law to attest to how terrible bribery is during this Star Wars (TM) Episode VII campaign season & share his thoughts with voters here in Ward XII!

Youth Duluth & That Is The Absolute Truth!

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin. Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Millwoods Public Library Terminal #XVIX, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXVIIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As I sit here in Ward XII, I am reminded of all the times that I have worked as an election worker & how we always wind up facing staff shortages on Election Day & other days of staff. Then I see this group of students studying here in this library. I asked them if they would ever become elections workers & they all agreed they would.

I. I am not saying lower the voting age from XVIII, but I do say let youth as young as XIV work as Election workers at polling stations & in offices to cover employee shortages due to the aging population. Many of these seniors make mistakes in paperwork matters, thus leading to longer lineups & wait times, so this would clearly improve the overall time it takes to cast a ballot. Plus, making it so every election worker at problem polling stations have to stay longer, sometimes for hours if they lose count. Thus depriving these election workers of their families, many who are being paid by the day rather than hourly for an already XIV + hour day & then to have to stay longer if a senior screws up or gets confused, its maddening, especially if there is little to no bus service at later hours!

II. This experience in addition to providing them with youth employment for school expenses, also gives them a start on their resume under the job experience. Which would be a great thing for @EdmNextGen & @EdmYouthCouncil & @YegVote & @ProjectYegVote to get behind.

III. Allowing the youth to work in an election setting will allow them to garner credits in Social Studies & Work Experience courses. Thus, they are being helped along in their overall education in getting practical political & electoral knowledge in a "real time" setting. Plus, being able to work in an election station will make them excited about voting & thus more confident when they themselves reach voting age & can vote for the first time.

A Historic Thirty-Two Way Vote Split,

Ward VI Reasons From Sunday

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXVIIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Oh this is rich, so very rich! Would you favour giving money to the hands of Ward VI YEG City Councilor Scott McKeen? I sure wouldn't, I mean his idea to place parking meters on residential streets is ridiculous! First & foremost, he'll just use the funds to offset the costs of setting up Uber licensing & administration. So taxi cab drivers & citizens would be directly subsidizing Uber drivers whilst parking on the streets in front of their own residences. Secondly, Coun. McKeen will take the revenues to cover security costs & administration which he will hand over to that welfare bum Daryl Katz & The Edmonton Oilers for arena start up & maintenance costs! This extra cash will then lower costs for Uber drivers & cut the number of taxis that pick up & drop off riders at Rogers Place. Is there anything taxpayers are not subsidizing when it comes to the Oilers, well I mean besides a crappy team, even with Conor McDavid!

Uberlicious,

Social Media Studies 101

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXVIth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

While its great that sites like @YegVote & @ProjectYegVote & others have links to Twitter handles of candidates, I think as a candidate for me (I don't know about others) if Elections Edmonton put up the Twitter handle addresses online at their website for candidates who have use it. This will allow for even quicker access to candidates &/or their chosen representatives by Ward XII voters, the media, & the general public who enjoy social media engagement of the civic variety in the political theatre of an election (albeit a byelection) writ setting.

Socially,

R. Joey

Round III

R. Joey Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward XII YEG City Councilor Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

January XXVth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The main reason I am now The Iron Man (no relation to Mr. Tony Stark) in elections with a record IIIrd run in IX months is to promote City Of Edmonton worker & public safety at jobsites. I have a friend who was going to step forward to run with his notice this morning at City Hall to be the XXXIInd Candidate who was injured last week in an industrial accident. For the record, students & readers of Executive Dissertations should note that workplace accident occurred at a private site, not a City site.

That being said, I agreed to step in and take my friend's place on the ballot & I wish him a very speedy recovery. In that same vein, I stand for election in this Ward XII campaign because I want not just City workers, but contractors & the average citizenry who might possibly get hurt or killed to take extra precautions in order to lessen their chances of so being affected at job sites that the City may have under construction with constant safety refresher courses. These courses should be made mandatory & free for all City workers & employees, right up to the Mayor & City Council, & free as well for the public at large! So I wish my fellow XXXI competitors a great byelection run & lets find the best possible Councilor-Elect to step into the Civic fray until the regular election of October MMXVII!

January XXIVth, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Congressman Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina hasn't got "the moves like Jagger", but hes trying to move ideas forward on starting to establish legacies for future generations & making their lives better. Many places in North America, including in the Albertan & South Carolinian sectors are stagnating so any progress for families made in the past is often being eroded.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In the process of "exactly = time for all sides", Executive Dissertations returns to Committee to get a remark from Congressman Kurt Schrader of Oregon, a member of the Democratic Party. As our last Congressman was a Republican, I'm afraid I must insist on this equality rule to the fullest to political science students. This is of course so that neither party has any form of tactical advantage whatsoever. The same rules now being applied as if there were actually a Congressional election on, which makes sense as the CXVth (115th) Congress will be elected on the first Tuesday following the first Monday this coming November, as will one-third of the Senate & the Presidency Of The United States Of America itself. Here, Kurt discusses what he will do for Oregonian families on the matter of sustaining educational budgets so that children are ready to enter the workforce when a recovery occurs & they've graduated & decided on a career path.

"At a time when state budgets are tight, it is important to make sure that the quality of our children's education is sustained. A consistent investment in our education workforce is critical to the success of our public school system & to the future of economic competitiveness."

Postmedia A Farce

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin.
#6, 14504-108 Avenue
Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

January XXIst, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Most of the Edmonton media, especially the socially liberal & progressive left-wing part of it may have a hate on for me, but that doesn't mean I am not pissed off with Postmedia for letting go employees at The Edmonton Journal & its other affiliated papers yesterday. These reporters & support staff are good human beings with families to look after like anyone else. Having taken a couple of journalism & broadcasting courses at the Northern Alberta Institute Of Technology (NAIT) as options, I have a great deal of respect for the press & find this news devastating.

I. We need more journalists during these stressful times, otherwise how are we to keep politicians held to proper account? They will be able to get away with more schemes & fritter away billions upon billions more of taxpayer dollars without any media oversight & that is frankly just wrong!

II. Without media we wouldn't have excellent reporters like Darcy Henton of The Calgary Herald & Karen Kleiss of The Edmonton Journal discover the fact that many previous Tory administrations were covering up the numbers of dead kids in foster care, as well as the circumstances behind many of those deaths.

III. Without media we wouldn't have had then U.S. President Richard M. Nixon, Republican-California have to resign in disgrace due to outright lies & the investigation by The Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward & Carl Bernstein exposing his crap with The Watergate break in.

IV. Also, collapsing The Edmonton Journal & The Edmonton Sun into one newsroom to share one space is okay. However, its very unethical of Postmedia to use the same editorial staff to write copy & opinions for both papers. Thus giving both The Journal & The Sun less editorial control over their content & opinions as one opinion in either paper that might be valid could be struck out any time if it was seen to affect the status of the other paper & vice versa since interference would prevent either paper from retaining its "stand-alone" status.

A Bad Day For Journalism & Students Of It,

Rory

The lesson that Congressman Keith Ellison of Minnesota wants to teach Minnesotan students & others on is the fact that many citizens are struggling to even provide diapers for their infant children. So he is organizing a noble effort at diaper drives to get new diapers on a regular basis to low income parents so they can keep toiletry conditions for their children sanitary.

"Families should not have to decide between diapers, food, or rent. With millions of families struggling to provide diapers for their children, it's time we recognized that families are being forced to make tough decisions that affect their child's health. We all benefit when children are healthy, & families are not worried about how they will care for their infant or toddler."

As the son of an immigrant from The Netherlands, I find what Massachusetts Congresswoman Katherine Clark has to say on immigration very interesting, as well as very timely what with the influx of Syrian refugees that are arriving. It is the mindset of the immigrant for the template of how they want to live their lives. Its great that immigrants come but its too bad Canadian & American governments are surreptitiously & systematically cutting the benefits of many Canadians born here in order to do so, so they can free financial resources up for the refugees.

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

In the interests of exactly = time for all sides, we return once again to Committee. Yesterday, we had a speaker run from the right, now we get a speaker from the left in Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty of Connecticut. Liz points out a factoid on being supportive so that kids grow up in a nurturing educational environment.

"With three kids who have each learned, grown, and thrived in our public schools, I know that our students & educators need our full support."

Dear Dave:

Over in Committee, Colorado Congressman Doug Lamborn makes a remark on student education systems for Coloradan students & students failing right at the ground level.

"I am deeply concerned about the deterioration of our nation's public school system. The poor quality of education that many of our children receive is an outrage which threatens to undermine our society."

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

On this first day back to school from the Christmas holidays we have Senator Dan Sullivan of The Walrussia State of Alaska speaks up about his thoughts on the matter of making sure Alaskan rural schools are safe & protected through the Rural Schools Act extension. Declining forestry growth in a huge forest growth state like Alaska are of great concern to Alaskans & their families. The timber monies of course being used to fund these schools on federal lands.

"I'm proud to have voted for much-needed funding for rural communities in Southeast Alaska who have been impacted by severely declining timber harvests."

Year VII, Episode MMMCDLXXXVI (3,486)

January IInd, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

From one Lois to another, I mean how appropriate is it that I send this post from the EPL Library Branch named after the late & great Former Lieutenant-Governor Lois Hole in order to write about our IInd Lois in the Command Chair for Her Majesty's Government The Honourable & current Lieutenant-Governor Lois Mitchell?

I had the good fortune to attend my XXXIIIrd (33rd) New Year's Levee at Government House yesterday & as always the food was rather excellent, not to mention the great people you get to meet in line. I myself consider it a very prestigious honour to attend these things as I first went to them as a young whippersnapper with my parents when I was just a baby & Lieutenant-Governor Ralph Steinhauer held the office!

I remember before that "Protocol" had been that the people meet the Provincial Representative of Her Majesty The Queen would greet average citizens upstairs in the Caucus Room so that there would be many more people able to sit & mingle in the food area downstairs once they were done meeting the Lt. Gov. & assorted dignitaries.

For many years this was changed to have the Lt. Gov. & the receiving line in the room where guests were eating & this clogged up the room greatly. Thus leaving seniors & those with mobility issues unable to sit down & thus the room could become stifling hot. This change to placing the diplomatic party back upstairs into the Caucus Room yesterday allowed for better traffic flow & let guests mingle in comfort now that the bank of chairs on the south end of the room could once again be used for sitting.

Students looking to join the Alberta Diplomatic Service should look to the Lt. Gov's Office & that of Legislative Security & Alberta Sheriffs for a textbook case in planning excellence.

SCOTUS-Mister Justice Scalia

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

January Ist, MMXVI

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

Dear Dave:

Happy New Year to you & your family & so we begin with Mr. Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Of The United States (SCOTUS) Antonin Scalia. Now while I myself fully endorse gay marriage, Antonin doesn't & wrote a dissenting comment on the matter against the V more liberally inclined justices & the fact they are indeed trampling on states rights in the matter. I don't "judge" the opinions of Antonin & the other justices on the court, I am just pointing out I disagree with him on gay marriage, but I agree with him that each State Supreme Court should be ruling on the matter, not the top court in the nation.

"When the Fourteenth Amendment was ratified in 1868, every State limited marriage to one man & one woman, & no one doubted the constitutionality of doing so. That resolves these cases."

Rory
