Proper Parliamentary Procedures Plus Protocols & Premiers Notley & Kenney

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

May XXIst, MMXIX

Hon. Adriana LaGrange, MLA, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Red Deer-North

Dear Adriana:

It was truly nice to meet you today upstairs outside the Speaker's Lounge after the Election of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker & Committee Chairwoman, & Deputy Chair of Committees. A few points of interest for my 2,116th visit to the Alberta Legislative Assembly for students. A hearty congrats to new Speaker Nathan Cooper, MLA, United Conservative, Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills, Deputy Speaker & Chairwoman of Committees Angela Pitt, MLA, United Conservative, Airdrie-East, & Deputy Chairman of Committees Nicholas Milliken, MLA, United Conservative, Calgary-Currie.

1. The Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms lied to me & said the Election of the Speaker "wasn't open to the public" & that it was "invite only." I knew this was a bald-faced lie as I have been to several, they also told me that it was "full" today. This was a second lie as less than 35% of all the seats in the Public & MLA Galleries were full.

2. To his credit, Sergeant-At-Arms Brian Hodgson told me that the event was indeed "public" so I showed up. And he's in charge of the Chamber's security so I'll take his word over his department.

3. Culture & Status of Women's Minister Leela Aheer's (United Conservative, Chestermere-Strathmore) staff refused to assist me or confirm to me that the event was public which was odd as she knows me & has corresponded with me several times & chatted with me as well. I have even heard her play music & sing at several events (superb musical talent, Minister Aheer has the confidence in her that I have never had nor will ever have in myself!)

4. Environment & Parks Minister Jason Nixon's (United Conservative, Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre) staff told me to come on by & I was informed that a slot in the assembly NE exterior parking lot would be reserved for me & it indeed was when I arrived. This of course made me an "invited" guest by definition of the legislature & Protocol Department.

5. After leaving the Assembly Chamber from the Election I called the Speaker's Office & told Alberta Sheriffs & Assembly Security that I would be going up to the Speaker's Lounge so I could shake hands with the new Speaker. So that I'd get "the trifecta" of Speakers handshakes in a single day having just shaken hands with Former Speakers Bobby Wanner, New Democratic & Kenny Kowalski, Progressive Conservative in the main Rotunda downstairs. What a pity Gene Zwozdesky, Progressive Conservative couldn't be there to, because I know that "Zwoz" would have given me the "4peat" on Speaker handshakes in a single day! I awaited Katya from Speaker Cooper's staff to double clear me through security & bring me over to the Speaker's Lounge. I did this even though I had cleared security to get into the building, as the key is for students of parliamentary procedures & security. Plus no one from any security or legislative department can say I acted inappropriately in any way, shape, or form!

6. I got to meet new Assembly Clerk Merwan Sahar, I am ecstatic he got the job as he was a fabulous Auditor-General!

7. Funny how I am the most watched by security in the Chamber & yet I am the only person not clapping or putting my feet up or reacting in any way. So in otherwords, the only person in the galleries "obeying" all rules whilst sitting there.

8. Didn't Her Honour The Lieutenant-Governor Lois Mitchell look amazing?! Best looking lady in the Chamber today by far & such a commanding presence on behalf of Her Majesty!

Preventive & God Save The Queen,

Rory

On The "Brink"man Of History

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

May XIth, MMXIX

Hon. Adriana LaGrange, MLA Minister of Education, United Conservative, Red Deer-North

Dear Adriana:

On the matter of whether "artist/journalist" Douglas Brinkman should be given a press pass it is certainly not totally cut & dry. Mr. Brinkman was a printer of the press for 42 years at the Edmonton Journal & Edmonton Sun. As well he has been a citizen activist & newsman for another 12. Of course it is the purview of the head of the Legislative Assembly Press Gallery the great Mr. Dean Bennett of the Canadian Press to make the final command decision on the matter & he has ruled so far against Mr. Brinkman.

I myself faced the situation of a ban years before but was invited by letter to the Assembly that day by the then Speaker. So unlike Mr. Brinkman I made zero threats to anyone & was charged with "criminal trespass" despite being an invited guest for the day. Which is why my ban was overturned, voided out, & ruled illegal by The Courts so on paper it never existed. I myself don't endorse nor do I deny endorsement for Mr. Brinkman to be admitted. This is very odd of me to comment on I know but journalistic students should see I am trying to represent all arguments here factually & painstakingly as I don't want to offend either Mr. Brinkman, Mr. Bennett, Sgt. Hodgson, Speaker Wanner nor anyone else in the matter!

"Press"ing Issues,

Rory

P.S.: Have you noticed how Stephen Mandel has been a whiny little bitch since he was decimated, at least Derek Fildebrandt left quickly & quietly. Its time for Mandel to stand down as his party's (Alberta Party, 0 of 87 seats) leader. Although in the last election he wasn't even a leader, nor was he even a follower! Including the fake news conference & story that a person had received an automated phone call pretending to be endorsing Jason Kenmney & supposedly being mandel & the "mainstream media's" tacit assistance in helping him get the story out. Again it's because Mandel used to have a relative working for CTV Edmonton News so you know the conspiracy is in. And didn't Serena Mah & Keill & Company such a marvellous job running the Mandel Campaign (into the ground?!)

Rather Gravely

Hon. Adriana LaGrange, MLA-Elect, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Red Deer-North

Dear Adriana;

I am rather sickened by the desecration of the grave markers for the XXXVIIIth President Of The United States, Gerald Ford, Republican-Michigan & his very lovely wife Betty. Having saluted & met & shaken hands with the President & Mrs. Ford by chance (& after proper Secret Service pat down was conducted, clearance was granted for me to do so since I have total respect for those rules) just at the conclusion of the MCMXCV Luciano Pavarotti concert put on at Northlands Coliseum by the great Peter Pocklington & his classy wife Eva. I am rather distressed at the lack of respect for political history & this great man who healed the nation in his unexpected ascendancy to the top job. All the more poignant when Mr. Ford never expected to get higher in power than Speaker Of The US House Of Representatives.

However for the sake of bipartisanship, I am in agreement with people that the punishment should fit the crime. it's certainly not a death penalty charge. But why not borrow some peanut butter from XXXIXth US President Jimmy Carter, Democratic-Georgia (Mr. Ford's friend after their MCMLXXVI run for Prez against one another) & the quite stunning Mrs. Rosalynn Carter. Get it in bulk from their peanut farm & lather up the perpetrators then give them a 5 minute head start before sending in the Secret Service dogs &/or the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Canine Unit after them.

I Am Being Totally Fair & Unbiased & Giving Equal Time To All Sides Here,

Rory
