Dear David:

I cannot believe how shocking that case of elder abuse in the great Province of Ontario was. A guy & his wife put his frail mother in a garage that was both unheated & uninsulated. Then also give her a cot & blankets. Sometimes locking her in the garage & even starving her at points. Plus they give her a port a potty for her toiletry needs that was overflowing. Students need II learn David that seniors & elders need to be cared IV & respected. If the son couldn't bother II look aftr her or afford to, he should have called Ontario Seniors & Community Supports IV help or signed her over to an extended care place to be looked after. After all, she looked after him he should see that she has every comfort.

Obviously Her Majesty's Government & Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty need II put in some administrative oversight clauses into Ontario Senior's Protection Acts. I personally encourage students to write government officials II get stronger legislation in place II protect their parents, grandparents, &/or elderly guardians. Just because someone is older, doesn't give the right to their family to throw them away.

Students Protect Your Elders,

Rory

  1. Elder abuse is certainly a serious issue, although few cases are as horrific as this Ontario one. he most common form of elder abuse is financial. See the latest Current Seniors' Topic article on Seniors Daily, www.seniorsdaily.net, for tips on preventing and spotting financial abuse, plus actor Mickey Rooney's testimony to a U.S. senate committee about the abuse he suffered.
