R. J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Ward G YEG Public School Board Trustee Byelection Candidate, Edmonton, Alberta

September XVIth, MMXV

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education & Minister of Culture & Tourism, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

One of the "crown jewels" of the Ward G riding for the Edmonton Public School Board (EPSB) District is as you know The Provincial Archives Of Alberta. Located at 8555 Roper Road, the Archives provide a great place for Ward G students & Albertans to learn about the history of this province in a "real time" format as history is always evolving. Plus there is always new history being made, every day of the year. From Alberta's great agricultural history, all the way to documents on Alberta's first New Democratic government getting elected with the Hon. Rachel Notley, B. A., LL. B., MLA, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona as its first Premier (also partly a piece of the Ward G riding by coincidence) are located there.

- Great neighbours include the nearby Corus Entertainment Radio group & its affiliated band of stations such as 630 Ched AM, 92.5 Fresh AM, 103.9 Cisn FM, & Inews 880 Am.

- Friendly staff who know their statistics, facts, & topic areas cold. Also, they know how to keep the learning materials in proper environmental conditions so that these valuable historical documents (both offline & online) are properly preserved in their respective databases.

- Field trips for students in Grades XI-XII (6-12) that are second to none in providing help in social studies, history, & cultural facts of interest about the province & its many cities, town, villages, hamlets, & other municipal, as well as rural districts.

- Since its your other portfolio Dave, you can see just how valuable the Archives are to cultural groups. There is a huge section on Alberta First Nations history, as well as sections on other groups of immigrants that have added much to our socioeconomic mosaic!

- A team of archivists & experts that will give students & others interests in history walking tours that are quite comprehensive & superb places to study on site. Not to mention valuable links where they can access the Archives from their own home or public computers.
