Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

September XXIst, MMXXV

Hon. Demetrios Nicolaides, B. A., M. P. S., Ph. D., ECA, MLA, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Calgary-Bow

Dear Demetrios:

IIIrd Mayor Of Edmonton Cornelius Gallagher had it rough as he had to come & fill in for what six weeks as Mayor when his predecessor had to leave in a funding dispute over Town Of Edmonton finances. This was the first time a Council had to find an Interim Mayor. A humble butcher & successful businessman, Cornelius provided many good meatpacking/butchery jobs for folks in Edmonton, which caused him to be very respected by council colleagues in business matters. He ably also served three non-consecutive terms as an Alderman on the Council, one after he was no longer Mayor as he chose to ran for Alderman even though he was a sitting Mayor realizing that was a better for him so he had respect for the institution. Plus he served as first President Of The Edmonton Hockey Club & made sure that the Klondike Gold Rush of folks going back & forth from Edmonton to prospect ran smoothly in terms of transportation issues this brought a lot of good business to the town.

77 Years & 301 Days,

Rory
