Number 10: North

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Castledowns Public Library Terminal Pod & Station #IV, Edmonton, Alberta

August XXVIth, MMXVII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The Right Hon. The Lord Earl Frederick North & many men/women of power have to have the want or driving "ambition" to get there. Especially political leaders (like the candidates now for the Federal New Democratic Leadership & the United Airlines Conservative Party Leadership here in Alberta & the upcoming municipal elections in October) & Freddy explains it rather aptly.

"Men may be popular without being ambitious, but there is hardly an ambitious man who does not try to be popular."

XIth Prime Minister,

Rory

  1. As far as popularity goes, it appears Lord North wasn't always all that successful. North was widely attacked for his conduct of the American Revolutionary War, noted Ian Ralph Christie of University College, University of London, in his Encyclopedia Britannica article about the prime minister. Christie adds, " after 1777 out was only the king's repeated entreaties not to abandon his sovereign to the mercy of the Rockingham Whigs that induced him to defend a war which at times he felt to be both hopeless and impolitic."
