Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
As folks know, I am a huge supporter of Edmonton Public Library's (EPL) & library branches in general as a superb learning environment IV students of all ages to come to. Plus, family's & friends can have fun not just learning about things, but getting together IV a study project or coming to the library to start planning a social event IV instance. Executive Dissertations takes the very rare & very unusual step of breaking its "1 blog post per day, every day of the year (including Christmas Day) rule" to congratulate EPL CEO Linda Cook on down to all EPL employees on the successful construction & opening of this very fine branch. I believe it will serve the residents of Highlands & adjoining neighbourhoods very well. Plus it can be a feeder branch to help folks in this area find information they may not be able to access at Beverly Crest (Abbotsfield), Sprucewood, & Stanley A. Milner EPL branch locations. I wish the management & staff of EPL & the branch staff much success on this new venture. The exciting thing is that Highlands EPL is just like Jasper Place EPL in that it is built on its old site, so residents will not have too hard a time getting to the branch II study! It's very well built inside, with areas for reading, writing, chatting, listening, viewing, & more quiet areas IV study, as well as a beautiful events room! Very well put together indeed!
Focused & Proper,
Rory

Perhaps its appropriate that since you are a representative with "water" in the riding name that Executive Dissertations closes out the month of July with some frightening factoids on how this valuable resource (which should be free for all the world's citizens) is being abused IV profit gain at the expense of countless human lives.
I. Over 60% of the world's water wetlands have been destroyed in the last one-hundred (100) years.
II. Farmers risk losing their water rights if they don't pump out all or as much of the water that they can from their property's through their aquifers. As a result of this, there is no incentive to conserve the water table IV future generations.
III. When forests lose trees, the water runs away as surface runoff instead of staying in the roots of the trees which allows the trees to grow & provide sustenance. Thus much of the water table is lost.

Dear Jeff:
The founder of the University Of Virginia, President Thomas Jefferson talks about a people needing education in order to make the country stronger in mind, body, & spirit. As a lawyer by training, President Jefferson knew the value his legal skills gave him in the great offices he held, as well as in the legal work he did as a private lawyer & as President in things like drafting policy.
"An enlightened citizenry is indispensable for the proper function of a republic. Self-government is not possible unless the citizens are educated sufficiently enough to enable them to exercise oversight. It is therefore imperative that the nation see to it that a suitable education be provided for all its citizens."

Dear Jeff:
Besides the late & great Jack Webb, the superb actor Ed O'Neill has also played Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department. Albeit with the two ranks of "Detective" & "Lieutenant", whereas Jack played him as a "Sergeant" & "Lieutenant." But as Executive Dissertations begins Year II of its student tributes to that great fictional police officer exclusively like his last name "strictly on Fridays", its appropriate that Ed O'Neill Joe Friday quotes also be used. Its factual & accurate in terms of detail, thereIV, it is exactly what Jack would have wanted & the kind of proper acting & police procedure that Ed can still appreciate.
Detective Friday is today on the trail of a troubled youth who was coerced & forced with threats inII being part of a III (3) man robbery team with II brothers with long & violent criminal records, The III have just robbed a grocery store. The older II suspects having murdered the II store employees have ordered their young accomplice II murder the II owners tied up in the back. Not being a killer, the young man pretends to by heading II the back & instead fires II shots inII the ceiling. Detective Friday wants to extend the young man the same courtesy of not dying so that the case can be resolved quickly & in a more efficient matter bIV other murders can occur. As he explains to his partner Detective Frank Smith.:
"That young man risked his life to save II other people's lives. I didn't want him to die."

Our second candidate is Donald (Don) Padget, a lawyer by profession & a very fine gentleman from what I've seen. Don discusses how he understands the needs of working family's & at points how just getting a proper meal for energy can be hard for students.
"Going to school at Prince Charles & Ross Sheppard showed me the diversity & struggles of Edmonton families in tougher economic times-how something as simple as the school snack programme helped less fortunate kids stay focussed on their studies."

Dear Jeff:
The comparison of accomplishments between Former XVIth (16th) President Of The United States Abraham Lincoln, Republican-Illinois & current Progressive Conservative MLA IV Calgary-Bow, Ms. Alana DeLong is truly fascinating for students to know.
Abe:
-Split rails for railways & his family log cabins home, growing up in Kentucky & Indiana. Didn't feel need to brag about it.
Alana:
-Built a log cabin with her own hands, her biggest accomplishment as an MLA was a personal benefit to herself rather than a constituent.
Abe:
-Freed slaves with his Emancipation Proclamation & brought his country back from a bitter IV year Civil War.
Alana:
-Born in British Columbia like Former Madam Premier Alison Redford, QC, MLA, Progressive
Conservative, Calgary-Elbow (& look how well that turned out.)
Abe:
-Lost 27 elections before winning a term in as a Congressman with the Whig Party & II terms as President of the new Republican Party didn't mention it publically and just went to work.
Alana:
-On her IVth term as Calgary-Elbow MLA, &?
Abe:
-Stayed in the Presidency even though he knew his life was in danger.
Alana:
-Cut & run from the MMVI (2006) PC Leadership race even though she promised to stay in to bring a "female perspective."

A.C. Rutherford: The Premier Of Confederation
Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8
July XVIth, MMXIV
Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
Today Executive Dissertations continues its look at Alberta Premiers with our Ist Premier, Alexander Cameron (A.C.) Rutherford, Liberal. A.C. was sworn in on September IInd, MCMV (IInd, 1905)-May XXVIth, MCMX (26th, 1910.) It was announced that A.C. would be the first Premier effective the day of Confederation at High Noon on the Ist of September so he is credited as being "Acting Premier" for one day bIV being sworn in. It should also be noted that the Railway Scandal that brought down A.C. as leader never implicated him personally, unlike Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald, Conservative, who did take monies in MDCCCLXXIII (1873) from railways for assistance in his reelection bid.
- A.C. was big on education, he opened the University Of Alberta in Strathcona on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River. Strathcona being its own separate town at the time. A.C. was so respected by the U Of A, after serving as Premier he was later asked to be its Chancellor.
- A.C. was definitely an education supporter & he served in the capacity of Alberta's Ist Minister of Education (your current job Jeff) IV every single day he was Premier. Being born in Ormond, Ontario and being a lawyer by training, A.C. saw the value of educated minds making Alberta better.
- A.C. began his political career X (10) years earlier as an MLA in the territorial legislature of the North West Territories. Just like another great Liberal, Percy Wickman: A.C. didn't win a seat there until his IIIrd attempt. Thus proving the adage that if: "at first you don't succeed, try, try again!"
- A.C. was so respected the law library at the U Of A is named after him, as is an elementary school in Edmonton, & a Mount Rutherford in Jasper National Park.
- A.C. with his legal knowledge set up Alberta's court system & established the first speed limits. He also established Edmonton as the Provincial Capital, which continues to gnaw at Calgarians to this day. CIX (One-Hundred & Nine) Years of municipal battles & they continue unabated.

Dear Jeff:
Now that it has been confirmed even without bodies that little Nathan O'Brien & his grandfolks are dead its time to kick Prime Minister Steve Harper & his government in the ass! We need to BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT & WE NEED TO DO IT NOW, NOW, NOW!
Its $14.50 United States Funds to get the needle full of drugs needed to put this scum child killer down. That is certainly a lot more humane a fate than what he gave Nate & his grandpa & grandma. And all over a stupid financial deal. We need to BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT & WE NEED TO DO IT NOW, NOW, NOW!
There is no room IV discussion on this point Jeff! Not one iota! This jag off who killed Nathan gets three hot meals a day plus free rent until the day he dies. Probably costing us taxpayers hundreds of thousands of $'s a year. Jeff: we need to BRING BACK CAPITAL PUNISHMENT & WE NEED TO DO IT NOW, NOW, NOW!

Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
That Is The Problem When You Have A Justice System That Cares More About The Accused Than The Victims & Thus Hampers Police & The Court System,
Rory

History is always changing, as are peoples perceptions of it. For instance, IIday is the CCXXVth (225th) Anniversary of the French Revolution or Bastille Day in the current Republic of France. Also, it was XXV (25) years ago today I was in the British House Of Commons & got to see Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, PC, MP, Conservative-Finchley speak. Talk about a highlight for me, being in "the mother of all parliaments" & seeing the Commons Chamber action live. I ask you Jeff & I ask students, what history did they make on July XIVth? More importantly: what history will they make on future July XIVth's?

Dear Jeff:
Due II an influx of youth gang attacks being coordinated between San Diego, San Francisco, & Los Angeles to keep police off guard, police stations are overcrowded & thus Sergeant Joe Friday & Officer Bill Gannon of the Los Angeles Police Department have to hold their coordination meeting to get troubled youth off the streets inII safe treatment programs in a more crowded central office, rather than in the regular Squad Room where officers have their assigned duty desks. They delicately question a college student who is using undue influence over the younger members by feeding them alcohol and drugs, both illegal street and stolen prescription narcotics. They want to find out what the start date of the next assault is going to be & if its going to be in one, two, or all three cities at the same time, thus causing unabashed chaos for police units.

Sifting Through Premier Arthur Sifton
Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #23, 9731-174 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T5T 6G4
July Xth, MMXIV
Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
Our IInd Premier, The Right Hon. Arthur L. Sifton, PC, KC, Liberal was quite an interesting fellow. Arthur served both as the Ist Chief Justice of Alberta & then later Premier from MCMXIII-MCMXVII (1910-17.) Sort of a reverse of XXVIIth President of the United States William Howard Taft, Republican-Ohio. Taft became President first & then later the Xth Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Arthur of course being a "KC" rather than a "QC" as King George the Vth was ruler at the time he was sworn in as Premier. At the time Arthur was appointed royally as a "QC" or "Queen's Counsel" because Queen Victoria was on the throne, upon her death & her heir being male, then anyone with a QC behind their name becomes a KC (King's Counsel) & the reverse if a male monarch dies & a female one takes over except it would be "KC" to "QC."
- Arthur like several of his successors here was born in Ontario, in Arva to be exact. He & his wife Mary would have two children: Nellie & Lewis. He worked in real estate for awhile but eventually graduated law school & became a lawyer.
- Arthur was a product of Ontario public schools, going to his schools as a youngster in Dundas & high school in London. He also had a Master of Arts from Victoria College & a Bachelor of Laws from the University Of Toronto.
- Arthur created agricultural colleges as Premier to give farming students & their family's the proper training they needed to work family farms.
- The MCMXVII Provincial Election was like that of today some 95 years later. Extreme voter apathy caused the Liberals to win another majority term, but many candidates won by acclamation as frustrated voters stayed home due to all the scandals. Of course Arthur having been a judge when the scandals took place wasn't tainted with them.
- Arthur became a federal cabinet minister in the Unity Coalition government of Conservative Prime Minister Robert Borden & as such was sworn into the "Imperial Privy Council." Thus like Don Mazankowski & Herb Gray, he was made a "Right Honourable" in title despite having never been Prime Minister himself.
Administratively Smart,
Rory

License To Kill Or In Doug Griffiths Case Instill

July IXth, MMXIV
Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
Lets review the Hon. Doug Griffiths, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Service Alberta, Progressive Conservative, Battle River-Wainwright shall we.:
1. This is an MLA who like you is a teacher by trade & as such feels the need to hold 62 separate apology or clarification press conferences in the last 29 months Former Madam Premier Alison Redford, QC, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Elbow was in charge (this is about 61 more that Alison.)
2. This is an MLA who like you wants to destroy history & math & the teaching of it by gobblygook curriculum & the destroying of it. Well let me tell you Jeff, the "Wildrose" is Alberta's Official Provincial Flower. It doesn't denote the Wildrose Party or promote it and its band of MLAs, led by the very astute Danielle Smith, MLA, Wildrose, Highwood. Its also officially endorsed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The IInd & successive Lieutenant Governors of Alberta! Do you really want to upset Her Majesty by changing the slogan? I don't bloody think so! It shows that Doug, you, & the entire apparatchik of Her Majesty's Government are being disloyal to the Crown when you should be loyal like Danielle & her team are acting: as Her Majesty's Loyal Official Opposition.
3. The "rosa acicularis" or "Wildrose" only grows from late May until August. Still, it has a much more pleasant aroma than Minister Griffiths or this idiotic decision made by bureaucrats in a few back rooms to change a slogan Albertans want left alone. Its like the situation in the United States. 10,000 people answer a survey on whether the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) should be forced II change their name. Only 5 people said yes, the other 9,995 said either no or that they were unsure. Its political correctness gone mad. Why not change the name of the Chicago White Sox II the Chicago Paleface Sox instead while you are at it just to make things even?!
4. Doug's the type of MLA who thinks that bike lanes are a great idea when we have too many half past dead seniors around who shouldn't be allowed to drive causing more accidents now. There were less when there were no bike lanes, GET RID OF BIKE LANES! ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
5. Doug's the type of MLA who thinks that Edmontonians are well serviced by having the Edmonton Municipal (City Centre) Airport closed. Just so we can have citizens who are being robbed, beaten, raped, murdered each & every day get slower response times or no response time at all from the Edmonton Police Service helicopter unit & have to pay more IV it (thank you Stephen Mandel & all your developer friends!)
6. I would rather pick up a Wildrose & smell its beautiful aroma than shake the hands of Minister Griffiths or any of his lackies. Which is probably why he got demoted from Minister of Municipal Affairs to Minister of Service Alberta so he could interfere or engineer his crap without getting inII too much trouble. I guarantee he's only in the cabinet b/c he ran IV PC leader last time & only kept his cabinet slot since the Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Premier of Alberta, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud is serving in an interim capacity (don't rock the boat until Jimmy, Tommy, or (heaven forbid) Ricky take over!)

Summer students working in restaurants & those in post-secondary schools who work in either bars or restaurants need II be aware that its not about them. Sometimes, family's with children can have an accident. Say a child has a soiled diaper or is out of control; get help from more experienced employees &/or management to help calm the situation down & make the family still feel that they are welcome & that emergencies are understandable. Put the family's first, help them, & learn from these experiences in order II become a better waiter/waitress. Not only will these incidents help you prepare as a student to handle future crisis scenarios, it will give you experience at how to be in the situation of being a parent & having some sense of discipline.

Dear Jeff:
While I agree an increased amount of "administrative oversight" on teacher disciplinary hearings might be fair, you are definitely overreaching in your power as Education Minister here. Part of the reason is you'll most likely be shuffled out of your portfolio once the XVIth (16th) Premier is sworn in sometime September, so your cutting loose like you don't give a damn here & that isn't right. Yes many of the teachers suspended &/or fined are deadbeats & deserve to be fired. Most however are treated fairly & its a case of fairness or the rights of law here, or "independent governing bodies" a teachers court if you will & if the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) loses their right II handle matters independently, then teachers proven to be innocent might be treated as guilty if you step in & they could be fired for no reason, thus we lose good teachers. Might it not be better if you asked the ATA for records no further than VI (6) school years back. Canadian tax code at provincial & federal levels lets these governments check back to a period of VI (6) years maximum, not X (10.) So why not have this same level of transparency & fairness and re-file your request with ATA to ask IV VI (6) years of records instead. This seems much more appropriate.
Refocus,
Rory

Dear Jeff:
Due II extremely high crime volumes, Department 87 of Los Angeles Superior Court has II operate on Independence Day today, July IVth. Due to a lack of bailiffs because of the holiday, the City Hall has offered up some police officers to assist & ensure prisoners get "due process" & transferred from their prison cells to the courtroom & back again in a safe manner. Sergeant Joe Friday of the Los Angeles Police Department is the lead officer involved here. A distressed mother whose son has been convicted of the sexual assault & battery of his female chemistry teacher is afraid to go to jail. Its almost as if she doesn't care that her son was guilty & there is blood evidence to prove it & the judge is having the Sarge bring him in IV sentencing for his crime. Sgt. Friday rightfully responds this way:
"You should've passed him the word, the world's full of people like your son that are hard to understand."

Premier Chuck Stewart: The Man Of Many Portfolios
July IInd, MMXIV
Hon. Jeff Johnson, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
The Hon. Premier Charles Stewart, PC was the IIIrd & last of Alberta's Liberal Premiers, serving from MCMXVII-MCMXXI (1917-21) & he had a long & storied career in both provincial & later federal politics. He was born in Strabane, Ontario & was a farmer by trade.
- Charles was big on supporting children and their needs. Students might be interested to note that he had VIII (8) children with his wife Jane.
- Charles served not just as the MLA IV Sedgewick, but as the go to cabinet man in the portfolios of Railways & Telephones, Provicial Secretary, Public Works, & as the Ist ever Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs as his Liberal governing party saw the need IV better relations with municipalities. This definitely suited him to be Premier.
- Charles later served post-Premier's chair as the MP for the Quebec riding of Argenteuil & later Edmonton-West (coincidentally, the latter riding I ran as the Progressive Conservative candidate for in MM (2000.)
- Charles served as Minister of the Interior & Mines for Liberal Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King & successfully negotiated a fair transfer of natural resources to his United Farmers Of Alberta (UFA) successors as Premier from the federal government. Thus giving Alberta family's & their school children greater revenues for education, health care, & other needs.
- Charles enjoyed being a family man & visiting with Charles Herbert & other kids on their family farm near Killam, Alberta.

Dear Jeff:
On this day XCVIII (98) years ago, the Battle of the Somme began in WWI. Your a teacher so you can appreciate history Jeff & I'm sure like you like me can see the irony that today we celebrate the birth of the Dominion Of Canada IIday on a day that was the beginning of the main Allied offensive & a lot of unnecessary death. The title at the top of this blog may seem like I'm pro-war, I'm not, I'm just showing that war while some points required is just ever so stupid, & yet man continues to wage war every day of the year for power, control, & terror. All IV what, a few measly yards of real estate? MCMXVI (1916) wasn't a highlight on Dominion Day (now Canada Day.) The Battle of the Somme lasted from July Ist-Late November. 1 million soldiers dead when you combine Allied & German troop figures. Totally pointless killing: we must tell students Jeff!
An Unimaginable Slaughter,
Rory
