School closings aren't just going on in Alberta Tom. Take a look at the "City Of Brotherly Love", Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There are 50,000 plus more empty seats due to kids leaving the Philadelphia School District in the last X years. Many parents are abandoning public education in favour of charter schools b/c they feel that is where the future of education lies.

As many as IX schools are on the chopping block. Philly like Edmonton has to realize that consolidation & the selling off of infrastructure thats aging is a necessary evil. Sure more students will have to be bussed longer distances, but consolidating & sharing schools with the Catholic, charter, private, & other school types is the only way we'll wind up avoiding huge deficits like the one Philly has now, over $400 million USD.

So an Ontario Public School District is ending the distribution of free Gideon Bibles II Grade V students. Has the world gone absolutely nuts, the Bibles provided by the Gideons were costing the school zilch, thats zero bucks & they turn them down. The Bluewater School District Board seems II have a retardation factlor setting in. The Bibles were distributed & any student who did not wish to receive a Bible could simply turn kit back in, no pressure & no questions asked. This means Qu'rans, Hebrew texts, & books from other religions shouldn't be allowed II be handed out in any public school, just to be fair. I saw Qu'rans being handed out with English translation at a public school about four months ago to promote tolerance of Islam, students werre free II refuse. Alas many were excited about learning tolerance IV an alternate religion.

I find it funny that Grant MacEwan University (nee College) is talking about the idea of "think local, live local" with its one sustainable campus policy. This policy degradates against students who live in the west end who might want II study arts & cannot afford the travel & expense of going downtown or perhaps taking classes out of the MacEwan South Campus (nee Millwoods Campus).

Yes many schools are consolidating & moving things II one site. But as a proud June MCMXCVII (1997) Management Studies Diploma Management Concentration graduate of MacEwan, I cannot see the logic here. Instead of making education more accessible, MacEwan's President & Board are making it more remote & more difficult II access IV students who might prefer II attend a satellite campus & be intimidated at perhaps attending the Main Downtown MacEwan Campus.

By putting the world into seperate time zones, Fleming made transportation times better,& helped improve the world's economy because goods & services could now be delivered upon affixed schedules. The Congressman was the first ever African-American elected in MCMLXXXVIII (1988) to the Congress. He sounds like he represented students well as he fought hard IV equal funding formulas IV public education & making post secondary & trade school educational paths more affordable to all. So a XLI (41) year old teacher resigns his position at the Enochs School in Modesto, California so he can move in with an XVIII year old former student of his, get involved sexually with her, & thus abandon his wife & family. What does impression leave on ther young lady, that all men, even peers want II treat her as a sexual object rather than a young female student wityh her own intelligencia? How does this action by the older male allow the girl II develop & have normal friendships/sexual relations with people in her own age group?

Dear Thomas:

The feature film: "The Ides Of March" featuring Academy Award (TM) Winner George Clooney & Ryan Gosling is quite excellent. While Clooney's political character is quite sleazy, its realistic, honest, as well as intense. the film shows just how hard a game politics is & that as a chosen profession IV students (or anyone), it can be quite tough as many politicos are just out II get one another rather than perform a public service with due diligence. It does however showcase that there are many politicians who are truly in there II make a difference IV humanity. Eg: Yourself, & your predecessor as Min. of Education, the Hon. David G. Hancock, QC, MLA, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud.
