"Take Me Out To The Ball Game!"

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

April XXVIIIth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

"Take Me Out To The Ball Game" was the exit music for Ron Hayter's funeral today! Oh how very appropriate, when your "the greatest one of them all." Meaning more days/terms in office in Civic Governance than anyone else in history & you love baseball. Ron's big league stats were 11 terms (12,050 days), times three years apiece so 33 years in office. Scandals: ZERO!

My dad & I went to Ron's funeral today & were glad to do so. He helped block City Council (which then as in now was & is very business unfriendly for this "progressive community engagement agenda" garbage) from closing off the east end of 100A Avenue many times at 156 Street which would have killed off our family furniture store, Koopmans' Furniture. He along with Lance White, Olivia Butti, Percy Wickman, Ed Leger, Terry Cavanaugh, Bettie Hewes were always in our corner (appropriate as Ron used to box!)

I sat with him in the Tiger Goldstick Fan Club box for baseball games after I helped get donations of used sporting goods for less fortunate kids. He was a solid citizen to be sure!

"Ron Hayter Re/Max Field" also has rather a nice ring to it! Sort of "above the crowd!"

"Check Swing & Play Ball" Upstairs Forever Alderman Hayter,

Rory

P.S.: Why don't they just rename the Shaw Conference Centre after Ron since it was his drive & energy that got that fine building constructed?

"The Enforcer!"

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

April XXIst, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

As Former Ist Lady Barbara Pierce Bush, Republican-Texas is laid to rest after her funeral by respectful Houstonians, we get into a great historical lesson for political science students.

41-0. Not only was Babs married to the XLIst (41st) President George Herbert Walker Bush, Republican-Texas (pictured top), she was mother to XLIIIrd (43rd) President George Walker Bush, Republican-Texas (pictured centre.) Plus she was "43" like her son in terms of Ist Spouse numerically as two Presidents remarried while in office.

     a. Xth (10th) President John Tyler, Whig-Virginia.
     b. XXVIIIth (28th) President Thomas Woodrow Wilson, Democratic-New Jersey.

41-1. In addition, she was a IVth cousin IV times removed of XIVth (14th) President Franklin Pierce, Democratic-New Hampshire. I always found it historically interesting that she married "41", the very inverse of her cousin's numerical position as "14."

41-2. I met Pres. Bush 41 at a MCMXCV (1995) Junior Achievement Dinner at Northlands Coliseum (thanks to ex Oilers owner Peter Pocklington, a truly nice person like his stunning bride Eva.) I was sad I didn't get to meet "Bar" but she was at home with a flu according to the Former Chief Executive. This was such a thrill for me! I even saluted him & "41" graciously saluted back before shaking my hand & all that despite the fact I have no military rank, its just about my respect for the man & the office.

41-3. Mon amis, Monsieur George Charlebois of Laval, Quebec met Mrs. Bush at a "Women In Leadership Conference" at her husband's Presidential Library in College Station, Texas at Texas A&M University. And "41" made an unscheduled appearance. He like I got cleared through the Secret Service detail to meet the President & just as he had told Babs, George Charlebois related to the Former Commander-In-Chief that he wanted to build a Museum of the Canadian Prime Ministers. As well, he told him that the Bush 41 Library was his favourite & the Former Prez was very pleased.

41-4. Sharing the wife & mother records with IInd (2nd) First Lady Abigail Adams, Federalist-Massachusetts must have been a thrill for Mrs. Bush. Plus she got to jointly break the longest Presidential marriage record with "41", also held by the Adams. It is interesting to note that her husband while elected from Texas as President was actually born in Massachusetts just like the two Adams Presidents & Jack Kennedy. So four men have been born in Massachusetts who became President, from four different political parties. It should be noted that "Silent Cal" was actually born in Vermont.

     a. IInd President John Adams, Federalist-Massachusetts.
     b. VIth President John Quincy Adams, Democratic-Republican, Massachusetts.
     c. XXXth President John Calvin "Cal" Coolidge, Jr., Republican-Massachusetts.
     d. XXXVth President John Fitzgerald "Jack" Kennedy, Jr., Democratic-Massachusetts.

Seems Rather "Bush" League,

Rory

The Distance Betwixt Us

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., 15902-100A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 0L8

April XIXth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Students learning to "bridge the gap" between people & get people to drop some of their differences so that they have less of a distance between them and have a compromise.

I-0. If a middle ground could be found on say the abortion debate that would certainly eliminate injuries & deaths betwixt forces outside clinics on both sides.

I-I. If the North Korean & American leaders can find a happy medium in upcoming talks, that would eliminate differences between them & lessen the chances of nuclear weapons usage.

I-II. If the Kardashian family was barred from all television & social media, life would improve for all the citizens of the world!

Distant,

Dear Dave:

Edmonton Public Library (EPL) has really outdone itself here in the valley with this store front Heritage Valley Branch. Library users have access to a great supply of learning materials & a really strong staff just like all other locations. This will serve students of all topics very well!

(Un)Lucky Number Thirteen

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

April XIIIth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The number "13" has many misconceptions that it is unlucky.

13-0. Many apartment buildings don't have a "13th" floor.

13-1. In The Kingdom Of The Netherlands, an average of 7,800 traffic accidents occur on Fridays. But as people are suspicious of Friday the 13th, less of them are driving. the average goes down to 7,500.

13-2. The Italian composer Rossini (who great operas like "The Barber Of Seville") was suspicious of Friday the 13th & ironically died on Friday, November XIIIth, MDCCCLXVIII (13th, 1868.)

Edmonton, Alberta T5T 6G4

April IXth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA
Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Fascinating how the sale of books works at a library. Now Edmonton Public Library is pleading for cash to help fully rebuild the Stanley A. Milner location downtown. This is very important so that downtown residents & students from all across the city are able to fully access library resources once the building returns from its current temporary Jasper Avenue location. So give all you can for book sales to help the library raise funds to guarantee the best building possible for all library patrons!

Study This,

A Little Of Both

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., Clareview Public Library Terminal #VI, Edmonton, Alberta

April VIIth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Here at the Clareview Branch EPL it is quite a sight to behold, you have teenagers reading aloud in a group a "Nancy Drew" mystery book in the Teen Fiction section. Meanwhile over in Non-Fiction, some students from a nearby high school tell me they are looking at a book on the building of the Canadian National Railroad. They asked if I had heard of "The National Dream" & "The Last Spike" by a guy named Pierre Berton. Well yes actually I told them & their parent chaperones that I happened to have a copy of each signed by the author, who I once did archival research work for at the Provincial Archives Of Alberta on a project involving a book & articles on Canada's beautiful Great White North as Alberta used to be a part of the North West Territories before achieving its own provincial status in MCMV (1905.) So there is "a little of both" in the library. Both fiction & non-fiction!

Great Reading For All,

Rory

A Snifter Of Brandy Window Payne

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

April IIIrd, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Stretching out to finish the remainder of her term, your caucus colleague the Hon. Brandy Payne, MLA, Associate Minister of Health, New Democratic, Calgary-Acadia should consider leaving her seat now. This would make things much easier as Rachel could then ask the Lieutenant-Governor to drop the writ for a triad of byelections, in Calgary-Acadia, Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, & Fort McMurray-Conklin. Arguably, having them all on the same date would make things much easier for the governmental process & make things less stressful for Elections Alberta as the three byelections would be based on the current electoral boundaries which don't legally change until the drop of the General Election Writ from March Ist-May XXXIst, MMXIX. Plus Brandy could (as is her intention) get back to her family faster! I for one wish her well in her future endeavours!

As An Aside: It sure is nice of Alberta Party Leader Steve Mandel to let the Alberta Liberals have some Edmonton office space rent free. Especially as they have been kicked out of their longtime Edmonton digs for being so very far behind on the rent! Progressive City Cooperation! (Maybe they can share a Post Office Box with one another!)

"No Payne: No Gain",

Rory
