Dear Thomas:

Today is the birthday of both my sister (April C. DeJong, B. A.), & of the Konigin der Nederland (The Netherlands), Queen Beatrix. IV students who are interested in history & Canada's historical relationship of friendship with the great people & Dutch culture overall, I strongly encourage them II read books on Canada's efforts on behalf of the Dutch citizenry against Adolf Hitler in WWII. Not II mention the great symbiotic relationship between the II countries have now & how much the Dutch people respect the Canadese (Canadian) people to this day.

Dear Thomas:

Quite a fascinating tip off I learned from Martha Stewart. Really smart indeed as a point of etiquette & convenience. i have to pack away some of my late mother's fine china IV transport & storage II an alternate location where it can be sorted, & then later sold with the funds going to underprivileged school children in Haiti as per her instructions. Anyways, Martha Stewart says II wrap the china &/or crystal & other delicates in Christmas wrapping paper rather than newspaper. It holds just as well, actually is smoother II wrap, & doesn't have ink coming off of it upon the unwrapping of the china. Plus once the china/delicates are unwrapped & redisplayed, the Christmas wrap can be refolded & put away to be used again &/or recycled.

Dear Thomas:

Can you believe the Shafia murder trial? What a farce, all these gorgeous & sweet girls get along with their mother is death! Honour my frikkin' ass! Using religion II justify killing your own spouse & children. Children who will never be able II grow up, get inII post-secondary studies, have their own husbands, & children, & being a positive contributing member of society. If there was ever a case IV the death penalty, this scumbucket father, son, & other wife deserve it. I hope they rot in jail! This is not a case where Allah deserves II be praised. No this is a case where Muslims should be ashamed at the way they subjugate & torture women, making them less equal when they are 100% equals to all males on Earth. The current government of the Koningin of the Netherlands has it right, get rid of the face coverings & sheets over faces that make women seem ashamed II be in public. Let women dress & live the way they want. Make them happy so they can put their talents II better use in making sure their homesteads are healthy & thereIV a stronger part of the human race.

Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Castledowns

Dear Thomas:

I just discovered a tresasure of a postcard when looking through my mom's things for sorting & distribution. In MCMLXXXVII (1987), she & my sister went II England so my mom could attend tea with The Queen at Buckingham Palace, as well as do some sightseeing. My mother sent me a postcard of a beautiful stained glass window in a church. She learned from the tour guide that stained glass windows were taken out of many church windows & stored in basements & in neighboring business basements, as well as at farmhouses. This was of course to preserve them, some C's (100's) of years old b/c of all of the heavy bombing raids by different German air divisions. So in otherwords to save history & prevent it from being destroyed, you have II take it apart, so it can be put back together as part of the whole again!

These meetings are being held as you know II get candidates for the upcoming March-May MMXII Provincial election writ. Students need II know that there will be LXXXVII (87) MLA's once the election is called. Which means a party would need XLIV (44) seats to form a majority government.

Dear Thomas:

I sure like this idea that Riverdale Elementary School's Kindergarten class members are learning from Ipad's. Not only is the school saving cash on paper costs, they are encouraging young minds II become technologically savvy right from the get go. If kids can learn about technology at a young age, they might decide in later educational settings to study mathematics, computers, or perhaps get inII the sciences. I truly think this is adept of the Kindergarten teachers.

Dear Thomas:

It was great to see the Premier at the opening of the new Stollery Children's Hospital Emergency Entrance & Waiting Room. Now kids of all ages can wait with their family's & strange adults. A hospital waiting room can certainly be quite stressful IV kids. As the trial IV the "Liberal"tarian Member of Parliament IV Edmonton-East IV refusing a breathalyzer test goes on tomorrow, I thought I'd give Peter C. Goldring (the best MP in the city of Edmonton according to my friend Milton Feathersmith) & other alcoholics a friendly reminder. When students start to get to be of drinking age, & even beIV that, we need II remind them II both drink responsibly & II never drive home drunk b/c they might wind up like Peter, on trial IV refusing a breathalyzer test, or perhaps IV having alcohol content in their system of 0.08 & thus being drunk, resulting in say an injury/ies &/or fatality/ies to a personage(s.) Parents, educators, adult role models, its our responsibility II make sure school kids know of the dangers of booze. Here's an idea: stay sober & stay safe!

Dear Thomas:

Last night on the Emmy (TM) Award Winning "Late Show With David Letterman", David had as his lead guest a Mr. Dana Carvey. Truly a funny comic & impressionist, Dana had a ball talking about his father's adventures in 50 years as a high school teacher. He would make fun of his dad's accent & goofy stories b/c his dad always laughed at all of the funny situations that can come up at a school. It was nice II see how well rounded Mr. Carvey has become, what with his own wife & kids, Dana is fond of telling the school related hijinks & excitement his dad had IV learning II his own kids. Plus with celebrity status as a comic, Dana can parlay those anecdotes to crowds worldwide & they can then relate them II their family's. Thus making even more people of future generations excited about the overall learning process.

Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA

Dear Thomas:

Just think of the excitement IV political science students Thomas. In particular, the United States Presidential battlefield. The Iowa caucuses were recounted & Candidate Rick Santorum won by XXIV (24) votes, a pullback from the initial set of no's that made Candidate Mitt Romney the winner by VIII (8) votes. Fascinating result change b/c it changes the no. of overall delegates that candidates will get from Iowa IV the Republican Nat'l Convention later this summer.

What makes this result a potential game changer and highlights the fact that democracy at its finest is taking place here is the fact that either Democratic XLIVth (44th) President Obama will be sworn in IV a IInd term in 1 year or LII (52) weeks or CCCLXVI (366 days) from now on January XXth, MMXIII. Either this will be the result, or the Republican competitor will have defeated Pres. Obama and then be sworn in as the XLVth (45th) President. This constant changeover on a fixed term basis is certainly very healthy IV democracy. Plus it allows students to extrapolate election scenarios IV every level of office based on raw data from previous elections.

Dear Thomas:

Sad news to report. My mother, June Christina Adams Koopmans, B. Ed. (MCMLXVIII, 1968) died yesterday, January XVIIIth (18th) of complications from a series of strokes & heart trouble at the Misericordia Hospital. A retired educator who taught in Clandonald & in Edmonton (at Afton & Rio Terrace Schools) she was a truly good person with a kind heart. She loved not just her children, but her grandchildren as well. She also loved teaching as well, with her main focus being on students from Kindergarten II Grade III.

She was also a very good mother, grandmother, & church activity's person. She had a strong belief in the Lord, as well as praying IV the downtrodden. I am sad she is gone, but at the same time, she is finally at rest and free of pain up by her saviour's side. Now I don't have II worry about her anymore! I can only hope that wherever she is that she never stops worrying about me!

Dear Thomas:

Lets hear it IV community spirit. Take the amazing & stellar Meadowlark Chirp Newsletter put out by Meadowlark Community League President David Gibbens, & VP, Andrew Knack as well as the rest of the Community League Executive Team in Meadowlark. Not only is this publication a great example IV journalism students II learn about being professional writers, its a guide IV keeping community's IIgether harmoniously.

Take IV instance the wonderful idea of having parents get together with their kids (tots age) to relax, bond, & chat. Thus promoting socialization & caring/respect IV one another's ideas. While adults can have a cafe, the little tykes learn II have fun & play IIgether in a safe & friendly manner. Thus, they are also getting an increased awareness of proper social etiquette. Plus its held from 9AM-11:30AM each & every Tuesday in Meadowlark Community Hall. A truly wise move as it gives the kids a sense of excitement. Plus in spring & summer ther children can garner great exercise on the fine playground equipment outside the hall.

Dear Thomas:

Extreme appreciation has II be expressed II the Edmonton Police Service Child At Risk Response Team & EMT's IV their adept & quick rescue of a III year old child who was barefoot outside in the snow. Especially frightening when you consider at the time the mean temperature was minus XXXIV (-34) degrees centigrade with the windchill. We must praise the neighbor who took action & brought proper police & medical authority's II the scene II ensure this young lad had an immediate warmup from potential hypothermia & was kept safe until it was determined he didn't require medical attention after all. Before we condemn the child's mother & the babysitter, we must ensure that all the facts come out & that they get a fair judicial hearing. I would however suggest Thomas that the boy, like all III year old boys deserves the best of schooling as he journey's through his pre-school years & that social services &/or another relative look after him. The mother can still be in his life, but until she straightens out her poor attitude of parental caring, she should only be allowed supervised visitation.

Dear Thomas:

For medical students studying in the field of elder care & gerontology, this is truly a movie about compassion. Its showcases Double Academy Award (TM) Winner Meryl Streep playing Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in her heyday, as well as slipping back II present day where she has alzheimer's, dementia, & believes in the fact that she is still Prime Minister. It also shows how much she & her late husband Denis thought of & loved one another. Plus the fact Mrs. Thatcher suffers from hallucinations that Denis is still alive. Not II mention how difficult it is IV her daughter II look after her, & how straining it is IV Mark Thatcher, her son who lives in South Africa II have II come & look after her when his life in South Africa & not the United Kingdom.

Whether you agree as a political science student with Thatcher's policy's, you've got II understand this woman & hard as nails Prime Minister & Tory Leader won III straight majority governments. That is a record unmatched by any other Tory PM in the XXth century & gives her more days in office than even the great Sir Winston Churchill. Here is an ex-husband who ought to be honoured & appreciated. Still such great friends with his ex-wife & her current boyfriend, he goes down to search IV them. They were obviously dead IV a long time, but here this man has II go all the way II Mexico II find their bodies. Dear Thomas:

Police in Charlton, Massachusetts went as per their legally required duty II a home wherein the father had an audio recording not returned II the public library & borrowed since MMIX. His V year old daughter was scared that she was in trouble as well, but the police had a case against her dad as well IV allowing her II share his crime of laziness & indifference II returning those items as she had books taken out from the library since MMX herself.

Books & other library materials are IV all to share. The library cannot afford II loser money & have taxpayers have to bear the brunt of these extra replacement costs. Tony Benoit, the guilty father in this case II me is a jagoff & should return his & his daughters items, as well as willingly pay all fines owing on them. Not II mention, he should apologize II the taxpayers IV weasting police resources, to library staff, his wife, & most importantly his little girl. What kind of father is this moron? He should be setting a positive example IV his daughter as she begins her educational career & not encourage stealing items that don't belong II them. alas, he should set an example IV her & follow the library return guidelines from now on & IV the future so that his daughter can instill this rule II her children.

As a result, I would argue IV me that Facebook & its astute Founder & Chairman, Mark Zuckerberg, as well their competitors have done well by me. As many of High School Alumnus compatriots from Edmonton Christian High School do not live in Edmonton. Sure there was a Xth Anniversary Reunion, & I believe there will be a XXth this year. But many of these students cannot make it, especially of course b/c of family, work, house of worship, & community obligations. Still others might have medical conditions or children or parents/family members that are so incapacitated that they may never be able II leave those relatives. So piping inII a reunion thru an online feed gives them that feeling of still belonnging II their class community in full living III dimensional color.

I also went to Athabasca University & graduated in December MCMXCIX. This was a correspondence university. So I took two classes that were available in the city I lived in, which was (& is) Edmonton. Another I took in Athabasca, but of course I had II drive 1 hour 45 minutes each way once a week. It got so cost prohibitive IV me I was instead allowed to call in by speaker phone from the Edmonton, Alberta campus. I sent in my assignments via email, mail, fax, courier, whatever it took II do them II the best of my ability. In both high school & university I met many great students & I still keep in touch with them. But we had our reunion online for my business degree class. No one felt slighted. A few of the class members met up in Edmonton at a restaurant & drove out II Athabasca on a lark II get great visuals IV us that couldn't make it & then email II us.

No, I would argue vociferously that Facebook, cellular phones, other social sites, landlines, letters, faxes, video recordings, still pictures, audio recordings all do the trick. Maybe we are not in on the action up close & personal as we were beIV. But we are through these alternate mediums at least trying II keep the lines of social hospital.ity & glorious academic/personal memories alive!

Dear Thomas:

What a great battle royale in the Republican Party Primary Caucuses in democracy in the Hawkeye State. Fmr. Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney beat Former Pennsylvannia Senator Rick Santorum 30,015 to 30,007 votes. A difference of only 8 votes & with 25 delegates at stake. Students taking social studies &/or political science classes I am sure cannot help but be ecstatic at the close result. Also showing a respectable result was IIIrd place finisher Dr. & Texas Congressman Ron Paul with just over 26,000 votes. Boy, the illuminati was working overtime last night II get Mitt his win. Talk about razor thin!

Rick Santorum Lost B/c Herman Cain Picked Up 8 Votes Despite Having Withdrawn From The Race, Thank You Mr. Infidelity,

Dear Thomas:

McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Ltd. (TM) & its affiliated company's seem like a great place II work IV. They offer scholarships IV employees who are students of any age. They offer PT, & flexible hours IV parents with children in school that let them both earn a living, & be there IV their kids scholastically & IV family needs whenever they need II be. Plus, parents can use that extra income II buy things like school supplies, pay IV tutition, or say buy school clothes.

I'd Say A Win/Win IV All Sides,

Rory

Hon. Thomas Lukaszuk, MLA

Dear Thomas:

Let me begin by wishing, you, Stacey, & your whole family & friends all the best IV the year of MMXII Anno Domini that is now upon us. IIday of course at Government House will be the Annual Lieutenant Governor's New Year's Levee right by the Royal Museum Of Alberta. It will be my XXIVth time going & its alweays just such a tremendous occasion. Our current Lt. Gov. is a retired Lt. Colonel in our Armed Forces. So its with great respect that I ask students II go & enjoy this rich tradition. Learning both our important links II our colonial ties with Great Britain, as well as respecting the rich military history The Dominion Of Canada has put forward, both beIV & after the patriation of our Constitution withg the signature of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth The IInd. Also, its a great social studies lesson IV students & their family's II learn why retain these ancestral ties to Great Britain & The United Kingdom as a Member of the Commonwealth. Also, II remember that while Premier Alison Redford might be the Head of Her Majesty's Government In Alberta, she is not in affect the Head Of State, & neither is Lt. Gov. Donald Ethell. He represents both the Queen, as well as the Governor General Of Canada as a Provincial/Ceremonial representative of the Crown. That distinction is important b/c that perceived split in power distinguishes us as a parliamentary democracy, & not a dictatorship but a country & province wherein the Crown rules, but at the same time, must respect the word of the people!

God Save Our Gracious Queen,

Rory
