Brian Lilley Is A Good Man In The Fight II Help Our Students

Dear Jeff:

Brian Lilley of the Sun News Network & The Toronto Sun Parliamentary Bureau is truly a reporter/columnist I love II read. He is standing up IV students when he retorts about how outrageous it is that the Toronto District School Board is endorsing polygamy or open relationships, instead of being true in a committed one in their classroom chats with kids about sex. Then also exposing the fact that the board is encouraging underage sexual experimentation with classmates & IV students to practice sexual relations with vegetables. I mean this is nuts, why isn't this board promoting abstinence & the use of protection II prevent teenage sexual disease transfers & unwanted pregnancies?

Brian is also right in mocking the fact that students here in Alberta are getting incompletes rather than zeros if they don't do assignmernts. With 357 high school credits & just over 150 post-secondary credits, IV which I was given a few zeros, I understand where Brian is coming from. I earned all of my high school & post-secondary credits honestly. I wouldn't expect my past zeros II be changed II incompletes. Why should students be allowed to benefit from laziness b/c this namby pamby board just so that they receive higher grades & thereIV the number of students that graduate increases on false grades? This is only being done by the board to increase the amount of educational cash it gets as grants per student from Premier Dalton McGuinty & his Ontario Liberal government.

Thanks IV The Facts Brian,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

In the film "The Gift Of Love" last night on Turner Classic Movies (TCM), Star Of The Month Academy Award (TM) Winner Lauren Bacall plays a woman who knows she has a heart defect. She is worried that her hgusband, a physicist played by Robert Stack will be lonely if she ever dies. He does find out eventually that his wife is sick as she tells him of her heart trouble. However, her character of Mrs. Julie Beck gives her husband, Dr. Bill Beck the greatest gift of all, she & her husband adopt a precocious little girl aged VIII (8) from an orphanage who has had III (3) adoption attempts already fail. Evelyn Rudie plays Hittie, the girl adopted.

Mrs. Beck wants to keep her husband grounded & know that he will be part of a safe family unit of II if she should pass away. She wants Hittie & Bill to be able to take care of one another & feel safe, happy, & best of all, not totally alone if she goes. When she does die, Dr. Beck falls apart his adoptive daughter & he try to cope, Hittie tries to help Bill remain strong IV the both of them. Eventually the stress of everything gets to the best of them & Hittie runs off depressed back to the orphanage. She falls on some rocks by the cliff the orphanage is by. Dr. Beck is miserable at home when he hears that Hittie has gone missing, he comes to the orphanage to help find her.

Whats really nice is he takes her home to raise on his own. He knows that this little girl will give him the strength & he her strength in return to recover from his wife's sudden passing. He will raise her right, put her in the best schools in order II make sure his late wife's legacy of family & caring will always be remembered!

Delightful,

Dear Jeff:

In last night's Turner Classic Movies (TCM) tribute to the New York City borough of Brooklyn, there was a great film about being encouraging II musical students. Triple Academy Award (TM) Winner Frank Sinatra was playing an army veteran looking II break inII the musical business. He stopped by the musical class of a young lady he liked who also happened II be a musical teacher. The actress playing the role was Kathryn Grayson, noted IV her ability as an accomplished opera singer as well in real life.

The film was called "It Happened In Brooklyn" from MCMXLVII (1947), & Ms. Grayson played Anne Fielding, a music teacher. She was teaching her students how II sing an opera aria, as well as play it if they were strictly insdtrumental students. She was teaching them how II perform it at a low tempo/pace, as well as mid-tempo, & high-tempo. This of course allows the students II learn at a pace thats comfortable IV each of their individual musical ability's & also then lets them know their limitations & how they can improve. Sinatra plays Danny Webson Miller, who is romantically interested in Anne after getting out of the army & hoping to restart up his dream of having a musical career. Anne is a music school teacher who hates her job but cannot get auditions to get a foothold inII the New York City opera scene, so she settles & does her best by teaching others.

Sinatra stops by Anne's class & performed some of the aria himself. So the students get II not only learn from a superb opera singer, they get a crash course in perfect pitch & intonation from Ol' Blue Eyes himself. The Chairman of the Board also works at a music shop II sing & play live music, the students from the surrounding neighborhood come II the store & listen II him, as well as buy records. So Sinatra & his supporting cast are being encouraging of young & developing musical talent. The film also stars reliable Rat Packer Peter Lawford, Jimmy Durante, & Gloria Grahame of "Its A Wonderful Life" fame with Double Academy Award (TM) Winner Jimmy Stewart.

Dear Jeff:

In watching Double Academy Award (TM) Winner for this film Shelley Winters deliver a bravissimo performance as actress in a supporting role (her Ist of II), as well as Millie Perkins in the title role of "Anne Frank", you realize just how sick killing IV religious/racial differences is. This film which I saw on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) last night was made in MCMLIX (1959) & is based on the diary kept by young teenage girl Anne Frank as she & her family & friends hid in an apartment/hiding place from the Nazis.

Whats sad is just b/c they were Jewish (& students of history & those who believe in human dignity will be disgusted by this fact) they had II hide in a loft style apartment in Amsterdam. Totally trapped & unable II go outside even once. This all lasted just over II years & eventually the Nazis caught the whole bunch, & the only survivor of them was Meneer Otto Frank. Luckily, he brought his daughter's diary II life in a book translated to many languages, as well as a stage play & film. He did this to show how rotten Nazism is & how situations of humans seizing power over one another through killing & mayhem must be stopped.

Tragically this type of violence goes on even today say in places as Darfur in Western Sudan, Africa, the Middle East, & all over. People killing one another b/c they are a different tribe &/or religion. All the people in the refugee camps (just like Anne Frank) want is II live & peace & tranquility with all of their neighbours, no matter what their race, religious belief, & socioeconomic status. Isn't that what all people should strive IV, to live normal lives in peace as part of one human race?!

Tot Ziens,

Dear Jeff:

Watching films about gambling & casinos, & what people who run them have II go through on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) all night, I was quite struck at all the different stresses & personalities & contingencies that must be faced on a daily basis. Including watching "Any Number Can Play" with Academy Award (TM) Winner Clark Gable from Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) Studios in MCMXLIX's (1949's) superb film about Gable's character running a casino, & just how stressful it can be on a person, as well as their family life.

Students such as the new Athabasca University MBA graduates need II remember that if they want II get inII the gambling & hospitality industry that ity can be both very rewarding & stressful. You have II make the casino money from the customers, lets face it, the games maybe by chance, but IV the most part they are frigged IV the house II win. You want customers II keep coming back, but as a responsible manager/employee of a casino, you must make sure to stop problem customer(s) from becoming too addicted to the machines & tables that they might do anything II win. Including perhaps harming themselves &/or others, a sad way II just get a few bucks.

Dear Jeff:

Mr. Daryl Katz, owner of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club is not conducting his business very fairly or ethically. He had reached an agreement with the Mayor & the City Council abour public taxpayer dollars IV arena funding. The funds were voted in IV him, a final figure was set in stone, now he comes back asking for just over $100 million Canadian Funds more. Mr. Katz doesn't have II pay the money back, or any interst & he's a multi-billionaire. Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O

Dear Jeff:

Why all the fuss over Monsieur Justin Trudeau, MP (Liberal, Papineau?) He's going II win the federal Liberal leadership in a landslide. Alas look back at an earlier Liberal coronation. I am not talking about Michael Ignatieff (the Alfred Apps Wondernuts), no, we must journey back further to Paul Martin's win. M. Martin (who like M. Trudeau) represented a Montreal area riding.

M. Martin won what 93% of the vote compared II the Steeltown Brass Taxer Sheila Copps with 7%. Just bover II.V (2.5) years later, Steve Harper was Prime Minister as M. Martin couldn't even hold together a minority, let alone a majority. Just as Grit operative Willam Wade Izzard says in regards to Dr. Raj Sherman, the Alberta Grit leader: "Paul Martin might have been a great Finance Minister, but he's not a leader, he's not even a follower."

As IV the Liberals, they should want a spirited race with many competitors, such as the race they held in MCMLXVIII (1968) when Pierre Trudeau won. M. Trudeau won because he faced one hell of a dogfight, an outright pitched battle. Thus the race attracted way more attention II the party & hardened Trudeau so he became an effective streetfighter in the federal election writ that followed.

If Justin Trudeau wants II bring the Liberals back from oblivion, I am all IV it (just not to power) just II act as a wedge II blockade the bastards in the NDP. M. Trudeau should hope that the leadership lasts several ballots, with an equal chance that he might win or lose at any time. If he takes the leadership in a cakewalk, the Grits (hopefully) will slide further over the crevasse as Justin will be seen as "anointed" rather than "elected" leader, as he'll be seen as willing II carry on his old man's agenda, which ravaged Western Canada, rather than moulding his party into the modern age with his own ideas of liberalism.

Bottom line you hand M. Trudeau the leader's chair without a fight, you'll just be bringing back Paul Martin, who couldn't win a majority if he tried, even with his Canada Steamship Lines billions.

I'm All IV Trudeau Just So I Can Flip Him The Bird From The Window of A Via Rail Train,

Dear Jeff:

Students interested in the trades should be aware of the following when installing a metal wire mesh cage front in a basement IV a condominium, or when touching up the old door.

I. Always wear a mask, goggles, & gloves & proper safety equipment when sweeping up the metal shards & particles that are around from taking out the old door. This ensures the worker maintains metal free lungs & breathing systems. It also makes sure they stay alert while performing the task.

II. Have plenty of garbage cans, bags, & vacuum supplies such as a shop vac to ensure the proper cleaning of as much of the particulates as possible in front of you.

III. Make sure to solder any misjointed breaks properly with a proper arc welder or other welding supplies & make this equipment is in proper workinbg order. Otherwise, rent a piece of equipment, or to guarantee safety II the highest degree, hire an experienced welder who can make sure the joints are properly & safely soldered. On nerw doors, make sure there are no joint fractures beIV you bring the door &or cage component down the stairs or elevator IV installation, this will save having II haul it back up the stairs & get delayed in the stasrty of your project.

IV. There could be bolts in the floor, or pieces of rebar &/or metal sections holding the metal sections IIgether into the floor. Be prepared IV any contingency & that you may have to borrow, rent, or even buy tools that will allow you II take out the supports/holders in the floor beIV you can remove the metal frame &/or door. Sweep up the rust & be prepared II have rust remover & rags on hand, as well as a mop & pail & safe chemicals that will allow IV cleaning/sanitizing of the floor beIV putting the new door/frame/component piece in.

V. Make sure there are no small children or pets running around or near you as you work on this type of project b/c they could get hurt by metal, or sparks from welding. Also, keep folks with respiratory issues like asthma or a weak heart/lung capacity away from project areas that involve metal particulates.

VI. Try & be safe at all times, or as safe as you can.

I am praying IV an amicable settlement in the Edmonton Catholic School District between support workers such as janitors & secretaries & the Catholic Board. The strike deadline is looming IV the morning of Monday, September Xth. I guess the support workers have won wage concessions in the past, only II have their hours subsequently cut, knocking out the wage benefit increases on paper. Hopefully an agreement can be reached thats amenable/welcome by all sides. W/o these fine support staff, its the student that suffer.

Rory

Dear Jeff:

Ormsby Elementary School appears II have student safety nailed down. At Ormsby, & at other schools, the student safety patrols keep an eye out on vehicles II make sure that students & their family members who drop them off/pick them up are safe as they walk through the interchanges/crosswalks. They also serve the dual purpose of ensuring that drivers are safely driving through & that the drivers don't cause an accident where not just the victim(s) are hurt upon impact, but they themselves getting hurt as well.

Dear Jeff:

On Monday, August XXVIIth, University Of Alberta student, Isaak Kornelson (who majored in arts) died when he lost control of his bicycle & slid under the back wheels of a cement truck, crushing him. This occurred on Whyte Avenue, so you can imagine not only the grief Isaak went through, but the grief his family/friends/fellow students, as well as the truck driver are going through. Lets hope bike lanes are placed/configured in Isaak's name II try & prevent future students who cycle & cyclists in general from being hurt &/or killed!

Dear Jeff:

As we toil & sweat on this Labour Day, & every damn day of the year, we must remember the importance of student health. World Health Club has this student market down II a science & II celebrate students going back II school, World Health is offering them special monthly workout rates. This is great b/c a healthy body leads II a healthy mind Jeff. Therefore, better overall cognition & mental function IV healthier students who workout regularly in terms of their classroom settings!

The Quintuple Academy Award (TM) Winner Clint Eastwood Versus The Empty Chair Speech Was Rather Embarrassing

Dear Jeff:

It was quite a guest get on the multiple-Emmy Award (TM) Winning "Late Show With David Letterman" last week. Dave had the First Lady Of The United States on, Mrs. Michelle Obama. Its wonderful IV political science students II see the First Lady answer questions in a light, relaxed atmosphere & still try & push her husband's & her agenda. Now Mrs. Obama is of course a Democrat from Illinois. She commented not just on her party's own upcoming convention this week, but on the Republican convention which was just held this past week. Its quite neat II hear the perspective of not just a liberal, but that of a female, & who better than the spouse herself of the politician (her husband President Barry Hussein Obama) who has the toughest job on planet Earth. She has II support him, but also remain in the background quite a bit as she cannot set official policy since a Presidential spouse has II be supportive & strive away from having her own agenda, plus she is not an elected public official.

Its A Fascinating Balance II Maintain Daily,

Rory

Dear Jeff:

If Ross Sheppard High School Principal Ron Bradley had any class, he'd step down & allow his Vice-Principal II be sworn in. IV the arrogance he has shown over this retarded policy of giving out "incompletes" instead of "zeros." He is wanting ever so desperately II get rid of his suspended teacher, Mr. Lynden Dorval. What the heck I do not know IV? Mr. Dorval has been & is thought of II this day as an excellent teacher by his students. He has the guts, & integrity II challenge a system that awards student incompetence & I IV one stand with Mr. Dorval, he has the courage of his convictions II challenge a grading system that is too politically correct & I applaud him IV the way he has conducted himself in the matter. I would fire Prin. Bradley, thats the only thing that makes sense in this situation.

The Ross Sheppard Attitude Towards Mr. Lynden Dorval Is That Of A Bully & I Thought You Had Outlawed That In Edmonton Public Schools,

Rory
