Dear Dave:
I do find it interesting that your caucus colleague Jessica Littlewood, MLA, New Democratic-Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville as Chairwoman has made points in favour of Opposition motions but then still votes with her NDP caucus colleagues to break tie votes & shut these votes down. Thus causing these excellent ideas of the collective of the Ethics Committee to be bypassed when they would in fact enhance the effectiveness of the overall Committee & NDP Government policies. As a private citizen, I refuse to judge the overall effectiveness of Jess or that of her predecessor the Hon. Brandy Payne, MLA, Associate Minister of Health, New Democratic, Calgary-Acadia. But I can however judge the fact that I was personally sitting in meetings of the Ethics Committee twice this year & Jess stated she liked/was favourable of some aspects of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition Committee members motions but then still voted them down. Isn't she as Chairwoman supposed to act as a neutral arbitrator & vote her conscience? Its not I point out to political science students as if the Hon. Rachel Notley, MLA, Premier, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona & Her Majesty's Government would lose power if they lost an Ethics Committee vote. Perhaps make it like the Finance Committee/Treasury Board in this province that an Opposition member of the Alberta Legislature acts as Chair. This would make operations of the Committee run much more smoothly.
Don Mazankowski,
Rory

P.S.: Check the security logs of the Alberta Sheriffs (the finest security outfit in Alberta) at the front desk of the Federal Bvilding, they will show I signed in twice for Ethics Committee meetings at two different dates & got two different passes so this proves I actually saw the tie votes & the commentaries of Chairwoman Littlewood in person.
