Never Discount The Value Of A Letter

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., 15902-100A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 0L8

February XIVth, MMXVIII

Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

On this day where we write paper letters as Valentine's cards/notes, I'd love to help paint a literary picture with Rachel's online campaign against the Hon. John Horgan, B. A., M. A., MLA, Premier, New Democratic, Langford-Juan De Fuca. But she has to realize that if he backs off he'll lose the coalition support of Andrew Weaver, B. Sci., M. Advanced Study, Ph. D., MLA, Green, Oak Bay-Gordon Head & possibly let the BC Liberals take over without an election, just as he did from Christy Clark whose successor in Kelowna-West is being chosen today in a byelection.

Rachel has her online petition & wants folks to supplement it by contacting MPs by email as well. But the Honourable Lady IV Edmonton-Strathcona (of whom I'm a huge fan) shouldn't discount the value of paper letters or hard copies in this campaign as well because using mail allows a person to take more time to develop their thoughts & arguments. Plus she should encourage folks to write letters to MLAs, & civic officials not just in Alberta but in British Columbia as well.

Rachel is telling people to write MPs by email, but if people paper mail them letters, its postage free as long as MP is written behind their name. Also, Rachel should encourage folks to write to Senators in both provinces because if you put Senator in front of their name its also postage free or like MPs by mail for free.

Example 1: Senator Grant Mitchell, Independent Liberal, Alberta, Senate of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A4
grant.mitchell@sen.parl.gc.ca or mitchg@sen.parl.gc.ca

Example 2: Hon. Amarjeet Sohi, PC, MP, Minister of Infrastructure, Liberal, Edmonton-Millwoods, House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6
amarjeet.sohi@parl.gc.ca

It should be noted that people can also write MPs postage free at their constituency offices so in Jeet's case as above it would be:

Hon. Amarjeet Sohi, PC, MP, Minister of Infrastructure, Liberal, Edmonton-Millwoods, 9225-28th Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T6N 1N1
amarjeet.sohi.c1@parl.gc.ca

You will note that you should add the designation of "c1" behind a second period if you are emailing a letter to a constituency office of an MP so its seen as for that office rather than their Parliament Hill office.

As for writing Premier J. J. Horgan you write to:

Hon. Premier John J. Horgan, MLA, New Democratic, Langford-Juan De Fuca, 501 Belleville Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8V 1X4
premier@gov.bc.ca

Or as an MLA:

Hon. Premier John. J. Horgan, MLA, New Democratic, Langford-Juan De Fuca, #122, 2806 Jacklin Road, Victoria, British Columbia V9B 5A4
john.horgan.mla@leg.bc.ca

As for writing Premier R. A. Notley you write to:

Hon. Premier Rachel A. Notley, MLA, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona, Room #307 Legislature Bvilding, 10800-97 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5K 2B6
premier@gov.ab.ca

Or as an MLA:

Hon. Premier Rachel A. Notley, MLA, New Democratic, Edmonton-Strathcona, #101, 10328-81 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 1X2
edmonton.strathcona@assembly.ab.ca

It should be noted that writing to MLAs & civic politicians is not postage free like it is federal politicians so people have to be prepared to outlay for stamps if they choose to mail J. J., Rachel Anne or any other provincial or civic official. Other provincial MLAs in BC have @leg.bc.ca behind their names while with the exception of Rachel Anne, MLAs are sarah.hoffman@gov.ab.ca if they are in cabinet or jason.kenney@assembly.ab.ca if they are not in cabinet or are in opposition & you write them at the Legislature Bvdg. Just like with Rachel Anne, if you want to write the MLAs at their constituency office you write to: edmonton.glenora@assembly.ab.ca for Sarah or calgary.lougheed@assembly.ab.ca for Jason as examples or just look up their paper mailing addresses.

You can also Google Search "Alberta Cabinet" & it will provide cabinet officer emails so Sarah Hoffman is health.minister@gov.ab.ca for instance. I would also suggest corey.hogan@gov.ab.ca & lacommunications@assembly.ab.ca as excellent communication links.

I would also Google Search "B. C. Cabinet" to get cabinet emails & also send the letters to the protocol offices & Lt.-Governors for each province, maximum effort. I would also suggest people email PM Trudeau at pm@pm.gc.ca or justin.trudeau@parl.gc.ca or justin.trudeau.c1@parl.gc.ca as a PM can do more.

Go to Www.OurCommons.Ca or Www.Assembly.Ab.Ca or Www.Leg.Bc.Ca to get the proper address information for all other legislators.

An Editor's Note: It was Jim Prentice & the Progressive Conservative cabinet at the time who ordered the coal mines closed by order-in-council, not Rachel Notley & her subsequent New Democratic administration just to be totally accurate on the coal file.
