January Ist, MMXIII
Hon. Jeff Johnson, MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Athabasca-Sturgeon-RedH2O
Dear Jeff:
It sure is hard II believe that its MMXIII now. In XVII days, it'll be a year since that great lady my mother, Mrs. June C. Koopmans, B. Ed. went to "teacher heaven" in the sky. Alas in her memory, we keep on blogging & talking education b/c its all about the children.
A few reminders:
I. Students should attend the New Year's Levee & Meet & Greet with the Lt. Gov., His Honour Lt. Col. Don Ethell at Government House IIday. Its a great way to learn about Canada's ties to the monarchy, & how our system of representative democracratic government works. Plus folks get to meet the Lt. Gov., Mrs. Ethell, the police & fire chiefs, as well as armed forces personnel who serve Canada so well, both on domestic soil & foreign shores. In addition, delicious food & beverages such as Alberta beef & turkey & eggnog are served. Its a wonderful time.
II. A historical factoid for students to remember. The planetoid Earth did not end on December XXIst, MMXII as predicted by the Mayan calendar.
III. Cats do not wear hats, thats stupid. Cats fight having clothes put on them very strongly. So as my relatives state, students watching cartoons have the right to believe that the show "The Cat In The Hat Knows About That" is bogus as cats prefer not to wear hats. My feline son James Redwing (J.R.) Cat Koopmans doesn't even like it when I try to put a collar on him.
IV. The Christmas Bureau did not make its fundraising goals last year. Alas its not too late to help them this year as they help folks year round. Please give what you can & encourage others II do so.
Ronald McDonald House Is Also An Excellent Charity,
Rory
