Dear Thomas:
As we "spring ahead" by setting our clocks forward this weekend, Canadian students should "jump backward" chronologically & look back with pride that it was a Canadian, Sir Sandford Fleming who inventented the system of standard time. Before this occurrence of a XXIV (24) hour a day world, a person could travel by train between three villages which were just miles apart & never know the correct time. By putting the world into seperate time zones, Fleming made transportation times better,& helped improve the world's economy because goods & services could now be delivered upon affixed schedules. As a result, the sender could tell the receiver when s/he sent the goods & the receiver could then determine when the goods would arrive & thus be available IV usage &/or resale. This then allowed both sides II figure out in advance what their overall costs per transaction would be!
The Prime Meridian Conference,
Rory
