Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

The rather intrepid & self-styled Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) "Ledgewatcher" on Twitter Kim Trynacity is excellent in her reportage as always. In particular with these threats against Premier Notley (who I gave a stolen bottle of BC wine to for her birthday from Premier Horgan's private stash), my boss under the Alberta Securities Act, Justice Minister Ganley & others. And why should Kathleen or Service Minister Steph McLean or Associate Health Minister Payne (whom I have all brought new baby gifts to like any normal person would) have to put up with such garbage? Answer: THEY SHOULDN'T!

People phoning & actually writing up funeral homes/insurance company Purple Shield to plan Rachel's funeral & these other threats, I mean how ridiculous! If you don't care for the Premier & the Alberta New Democratic Party, you vote against them or spoil your ballot as part of the democratic process in the next provincial election writ in MMXIX. Or you write them an email or letter, or use a social media platform to state you disagree with her (or whomever you are speaking to) in a civil manner & there you can explain why. This allows for dialogue & perhaps a compromise to be reached.

To say nothing of the extra stress people are causing these elected officials & their security details, Rachel & Kathleen & the others are also wives & mothers. As a result these very mean threats are indirectly being made to the spouse & children & extended families of those officials that are being threatened. Frankly it is not something that needs to occur.

I happen to admire Rachel Notley greatly, just as I admired her late father Grant (I attended his funeral with my dad.) We may not be socialistic in our philosophy, but the Notley family has done a lot of good for Alberta in both opposition & in its three years of governance. Sure they have made many mistakes, but the former conservative governments did too. Our longest serving Premier Ernest C. Manning did XXV.V (25.5) years in power & he wasn't perfect despite his seven majorative term wins.

I favour not just vehicles for cabinet ministers & the Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Official Opposition whenever they are in Edmonton or Calgary. I think like the occupant of Room #CCCVIII (#307), The Office of the Premier, they should be assigned a 24/7 security detail whenever in each of the two main Alberta cities. It is a sad commentary, but it is getting to the point where it seems necessary & it will ensure proper governance. Furthermore, a guard or an Alberta Sheriff should walk the halls with every cabinet officer at all times whenever they are in the Legislature Bvilding or at McDougall Centre in Calgary.

I was also very upset to hear of threats against Culture Minister Miranda, Finance Minister Ceci, & others, particularly the threat to you. As well as to Deputy Premier & Health Minister Hoffman who is a very nice person to dialogue with & who happens to be my MLA. Perhaps these people should get psychological assistance to change their attitudes to a positive way!

Seems to me that from a security perspective, allowing cabinet members facing a threat(s) to participate via Skype or teleconference in federal & provincial & territorial parliaments/legislatures would be a rather wise move until the threat(s) can be assessed & neutralized. After all, they allow municipal politicians to participate from alternate locations in these manners.

Assigned Shift Detail,

Rory
