Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education,
New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder
Dear Dave:
It seems rather odd to me that your colleague, the Honourable New Democratic Gentleman IV Calgary-Fort is hiding out in Fort Calgary from his fiduciary duties as Her Majesty's Government's Minister of Finance & Provincial Treasurer. If Minister
Joe Ceci, B. S. W., M. S. W., MLA is upset that he is being pressured to appear before the
Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings & Trust Fund run by
AIMco because he is embarrassed that his background in social work (rather than finance) is an impediment, he shouldn't be. What is especially embarrassing I must say I find it frustrating that when I attend the
Annual Public Hearing that a man whose cabinet salary I pay personally through my tax dollars doesn't even show up to be accountable to the public & answer their investment questions.
A
first supplemental if I may Dave. If Minister Ceci would feel more comfortable, he could bring along a
Deputy Minister of Finance from the
Treasury Department who has an accounting &/or finance designation or both. In this way, they could answer queries in a tandem. Also, it would have the added bonus of making it so the Minister wasn't looking like he had anything to hide.
Of course he's got 71 billion reasons so far why he is hiding (& that is according to his own budgetary line-item estimates.)
The
second supplemental would be is why is the public only allowed to attend one meeting of this committee a year?
E. Peter Lougheed ran the
Heritage Fund Committee as totally open & the public could attend its meetings whenever & wherever they met. Let us open the meetings up again, after all, my taxes pay for the cost of the
Committee Room & extra wages MLAs get for sitting on the committee.
Some Assembly Required,
Rory
