Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder

Dear Dave:

Strictly speaking from the standpoint of being a Grant MacEwan College & Athabasca University business graduate, has Horse Racing Alberta & Northlands ever looked into the possibility of the following?

A. Converting Northlands Coliseum into a year-round indoor horse track? Arguably, this would save several hundred jobs in the service area that will not leave Edmonton. Thus, Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson & City Council wouldn't face any tax loss.

B. It would go a long way to paying down a portion of Northlands loans outstanding to City coffers.

C. The facility is already built & the bottom say 6-8 rows could be ripped out to make way for stables & Northlands racing staff & thus accommodate a track.

D. Mr. Daryl Katz & Rogers Place staff haven't expressed any interest in running such horse racing events, so an indoor track inside Northlands Coliseum would definitely not be a direct competitor per se.

"And Down The Stretch They Come",

Rory

I don't think indoor horse racing is really "a thing." Why not just tear down Rexall and leave the track the way it is?
