Dear Dave;
I agree with the always adroit Dr. Cristina Stasia (gosh she is a nice lady) on this matter of the extremist "pro-life" video comparing abortion to The Holocaust. The subtext of how Ecole Notre Dame Secondaire High School here in palatial Red Deer handled the airing of the video & its consequences is actually worse than the United Airlines security procedures for removing passengers with valid tickets (yes this is possible.)
Now as I have stated to the good lady Dr. Cristina & others, I am not "pro-life" nor am I "pro-choice." I am not a medical officer of health or expert (like the poor doctor beaten & dragged off the United Airlines flight), so I would feel uncomfortable in stating an opinion until I have heard from all sides backed by medical documentation & testimonials from women who have had, or were thinking of having an abortion before I could be a fair judge of anything. As well as perhaps their children &/or friends/families who faced this similar decision.
What the Red Deer Catholic Schools Division & Ecole Notre Dame administration & Red Deer Pro-Life should have done is to present a video that favours the "pro-life" option to students & another video of an equal length that showcases the "pro-choice" argument. Or one video with points in favour of either at an exactly equal amount so that students could make up their own minds, no tactical advantage whatsoever. I would have also removed all references to Auschwitz & concentration camps/holocaust. As the son of a refugee from The Netherlands who escaped the totalitarian Nazi regime & whose birth country was liberated by Canadian Armed Forces, I take great offense at the holocaust commentary being added in!
Pro-Fairness,
Rory
