Dear David:
Here at the Castledowns Branch EPL is another rather unique initiative. As part of their Castledowns Book Club, seniors, parents, students & anyone who is interested can listen II Audio books in one of the side rooms. This is a great idea as family's can sit together. Students with reading problems, folks who have temporarily lost cognitive function due II say an accident or fighting a disease can relax in comfort & still have their minds educated by listening to the narration of another human voice. Library patrons have told me that grandkids & kids of school age like II bring in their parents/grandparents/guardians with them so they can show them how well they can read on their own. As you can imagine, the adult doing the listening takes extreme pride in this.
By having the folks in side rooms with the literacy difficulty's, they can hear the speaker (either on tape or live) & then practice enunciating & gaining basic diction back. They can take their time, be in a relaxed atmosphere & be surrounded by family & friends. Learning languages can be difficult, but having to relearn them & pronunciations that after a lifetime of speaking have been lost is even worse. I say bravissimo to the Castledowns EPL & other EPL staffs IV this most excellent initiative!
Constructing Words & Sentences Anew,
Rory
