The Parliamentarians-Pierre Nantel, MP

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

January VIth, MMXV

Hon. Gordon Dirks, B. Ed., M. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, Progressive Conservative, Calgary-Elbow

Dear Gordon:

Drugs in prisons for both first time young offenders & repeat offenders are rampant, almost at an unstoppable pace. Pierre Nantel, MP speaking on Government Orders, The Drug Free Prisons Act tries to put this inII perspective in order that once young people will stay on the straight & narrow once released from incarceration. That is both drug & alcohol free so that they have a chance at redeeming themselves & being normal members of society, rather than expensive repeat users of the Canadian justice & prison systems.

"The real problem is addiction in prisons. Did members know that 80% of those who go to a federal penitentiary have drug or alcohol problems? That is huge."

Number CCX (210),

Rory
