June XXVth, MMXVI
Hon. Dave Eggen, B. Ed., MLA, Minister of Education, New Democratic, Edmonton-Calder
Dear Dave:
An Editor's Note: It was great to run into you & your very lovely bride Somboon at the North YEG Cineplex as I was leaving & you were entering to see the new Civil War flick "Free State Of Jones" with Academy Award (TM) Winner Matthew McConaughey. Although while they called it "Civil" when its now 800 thousand dead at last count (& still rising) is beyond me!
Head of a Committee of bipartisan Members Of Congress looking into sport brain injuries is Florida Congressman Tom J. Rooney. Tommy like any parent wants to do his best to protect his own son from possible traumatic brain injury as he takes up contact football in a school or after school football setting. This will make the National Football League (NFL) & the Canadian Football League (CFL) which just started its season last night more aware of the need to put in better protections for players.
"I want my son to have the same experiences that I had, & I know its impossible to eliminate all of the risks playing sports, contact or noncontact. Still, although we cannot banish risk completely, we can ensure that helmets & other equipment, as well as medical assessment protocols, meet the highest safety standards for our kids as well as for professional athletes in the NFL."
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
Rory

P. S.: People should watch the great Academy Award (TM) Nominee Will Smith film "Concussion" on this matter. With stand out performances from Academy Award (TM) Nominee Alec Baldwin & Academy Award (TM) Nominee Albert Brooks.
