Dear Demetrios:
On Easter Sunday at 3:30PM MDT I saw "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" on the big screen at the beautiful classic Garneau Theatre in south Edmonton, in of course beautiful balcony seating. It was a glorious film & I had seen it before, directed by Oscar (TM) Winner John Ford, & starring three Academy Award (TM) Winners for Best Actor, John Wayne, James Stewart, & Lee Marvin. A western, with quality actors like these & a solid supporting cast, & shot in sublime black & white, it was a great experience to see this film on a big screen.
It relates to Canada's current Federal Election as James Stewart's character, Ransom Stoddard is a lawyer & he wants to get the territory he's living in to become a state. Just as Mr. Trump wants Canada to become America's LIst (51st) State. Though Stoddard wants to do this peacefully by becoming a territorial delegate, & garnering votes through the democratic process to get folks to vote in plebiscites to accept statehood. Stoddard helps illiterate folks in his town learn how to read & stand up for their rights against bullies & murderers like Liberty Valance who want to take them away, through coercion such as violence, even murder.
Eventually Ransom Stoddard serves as Ist Governor of his State then moves on to becoming its Ist United States Senator, very healthy political contributions/discussions. None of this meanness & coercion that the MAGA crowd is trying to stick on Canadians!
Vincent Massey,
Rory
