Dear Jeff:

As Executive Dissertations honours mothers on Mothers Day, we celebrate one of the greatest television mom's or mama's of them all. Mrs. (or Miss in Texas twang) Eleanor "Ellie" Southworth Ewing. Miss Ellie was the mother of John Ross "J.R." Ewing The IInd, Garrison "Gary" Arthur Ewing, & Robert "Bobby" James Ewing, as well as the stepmother of Raymond "Ray" Krebbs. When Miss Ellie's husband Jock died in a helicopter crash in South America, his & her friends in "the oil business" created an educational scholarship & foundation known as the "Jock Ewing Memorial Scholarship." They insisted that Jock's widow, Miss Ellie take it upon herself to be the patron of that scholarship & Miss Ellie was ever so greatful in her acceptance speech of that honour.

Miss Ellie, also known as the "Yellow Rose Of Texas" was sad to have lost her husband, but she knew that the monies received by the beneficiary students in Jock's name would have them get a good educational foundation & a head start in life. Something he definitely would have wanted. Southern Methodist University was only to happy to be Miss Ellie's partner.
