Dear David:

I noticed that in Book Clubs IV adults & on Best Seller lists there are always recommendations by adults on which books II buy & such. Even in kids books & juvenile fiction IV instance the focus seems II be on just the opinions of adults as II which book(s) are best II read.

To me, a child in school has just as valuable an opinion on what is important in terms of reading material. Its especially important II give them confidence at a young age when their minds are still developing that that their views are being heard.

Why doesn't the Edmonton Public School Board & Edmonton Catholic School Board, as well as other districts publish a master list each week at the school websites and on their main website of the top say V or X picks by students. If kids see that other kids are suggesting books with their names & schools written out on websites, they'll become even more excited about reading themselves & then want II read more so they can get on the list. This will then increase family reading time overall with parents wanting II encourage their kids II read with extra storytime & then perhaps having family book club discussions on common areas that parent(s) & child(ren) might be interested in.
