Dear David:
Of course its respectful IV students of all ages to be sensitive with their noise levels in library's. Especially in consideration of those who are older &/or who have auditory difficulties. I IV one agree with folks who tell kids to keep their voice at a moderate level (as it states on the sign here in this EPL branch & at every branch.)
Seniors & hearing disabled folks should learn though that they have to give kids some leeway though. Kids yell & scream a tad, and shout out when they are excited. This is only natural & it gives them the extra feeling of excitement of discoverinfg anew. I ask those older students with noise complaints II gently tell the library staff &/or the students themselves. In this way, the problem can be corrected immediately & a more peaceful & tranqiuil library will remain.
There was a youth group here today & a senior complained. It got really nasty in tone but all sides calmed down after the library staff settled things.
Graciously,
Rory
