Dear Jeff:
Only 70 years old & gone from cancer. First it took his voice, & now it has robbed us of the voice of one of the greatest film critics & reviewers of all time, the superb Chicago based Roger Ebert. In MXMCIX, brain cancer took his friend from the competing Chicago Tribune, Gene Siskel at only 53 years of age. Together, "Siskel & Ebert" was a bonafide tv hit worldwide as the two reviewers from the competing papers (with Ebert writing for the Chicago Sun-Times) gave such excellent reviews. Roger Ebert & Gene Siskel had class & style, & they both remained true II routes by staying in Chicage to do their reviews & not falling for the lustre of Hollywood or New York City. This allowed them II stay in the background, slightly above the crowd. B/c they were so highly respected, people instead came to Roger & Gene each week to hear their opinions. I for one will miss not having Roger's reviews in my daily newspaper anymore.
