Dear Jeff:
April Vth is an interesting day in history.
1774: Founding Father of the United States Benjamin Franklin sends a mocking open letter to a British newspaper (The Public Advertiser) from London in which he suggests to the British Prime Minister, Frederick, Lord North that he have "martial law" imposed across all of the United States & the King's Realms & Territories.
1862: The siege of Yorktown begins under Union General George McClellan in the American Civil War. Its used as a diversionary tactic to bleed the strength/resources of Confederate troops instead of attacking them directly. Plus forces from the North (Union) were not exactly aware at the time of the strength (or numbers of troops) of Southern troops (Confederacy.) Thus began many years of stalemate & hundreds of 1000's of deaths until the North finally achieved victory in 1865.
1955: British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill resigns for the last time as he is at this stage 80 years old & in failing health. A hero in WWII, Churchill was an MP from 1900 on, am amazing record of public service to the British people.
2008: Hollywood legendary actor & Academy Award (TM) Winner Charlton Heston dies, a glorious six decade acting career was behind him, he was 84. He was my late mother June's favourite actor.
The Vth Dimension,
Rory
