Dear Jeff:
I for one cannot see the value in the Government of The People's Republic of China promoting only one Chinese dialect/language over another. That is, Mandarin over Cantonese. If students are bilingual, or even multilingual, the world is open II them. The possibilities IV better economic opportunities that require language translation will open up to these multi-language speakers. Why wipe out Cantonese? Its a rich language all its own & helps, not hinders Chinese citizens.
