Hon. Gordon Dirks, B. Ed., M. Ed., MInister of Education, Progressive Conservative, No Constituency As Unelected
Dear Gordon:
As a former university professor, Prime Minister John S. Thompson knew about the value of education as he received the best of schooling towards getting his law degree. With this legal mind, he took the mentorship of his late friend & predecessor John A. Macdonald & served as Prime Minister & Minister of Justice simultaneously to guarantee that people of the Dominion Of Canada had fair laws made & enforced.
His legal training led Prime Minister Thompson to be an early proponent & advocate for equal rights for women, such as voting. He lived with three strong women in his house: his wife, his mother, & his sister so this shaped him very well towards the female perspective. So he spoke a few words to university students about it.
"We look forward to it as one of the aims which are to be accomplished in the public life of Canada (the right to vote), because the Conservative Party believes that the influence of women in the politics of the country is always for good, I think, therefore, that there is a probability of the franchise being extended to the women on the same property qualifications as men."
Died At Windsor Castle After Being Sworn Into The Privy Council By Her Majesty Queen Victoria,
Rory
