Mayors Galore-Blatchford

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

September XXIIIrd, MMXXV

Hon. Demetrios Nicolaides, B. A., M. P. S., Ph. D., ECA, MLA, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Calgary-Bow

Dear Demetrios:

XVIIth Mayor Kenneth Alexander Blatchford would be rolling over in his grave today if he knew of all the bullshit behind closing the the Edmonton Municipal Airport & that the reconstituted Blatchford Field & neighborhood has only a few hundred residents in it. Furthermore, he would have been against the airport closing as it was a vital link to air traffic going up north & back. As well as takeoff centre for bringing military supplies to troops in world wars. A decade plus on & the legacy of Mayor Stephen Mandel is that 360 acres plus of prime farmland were taken away in Parkland County to build the Parkland County Airport & all that has done is cause noise for area residents & pollute the land, sea, & air. The Municipal Airport should never have been closed pure & simple that was bad policy making! In addition to being a businessman, Kenneth was a prospector & also served a term as Alderman. He won the Federal House Of Commons seat of Conservative Ambrose Bury who would go onto succeed Kenneth as Mayor. In a unique rematch four years later, Ambrose Bury once again ran against Kenneth for his old Commons seat & became Conservative MP again.

51 Years & 46 Days,

Rory
