Mayors Galore-Clarke: Part 1

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., #6, 14504-108 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5N 1G8

September XXIIIrd, MMXXV

Hon. Demetrios Nicolaides, B. A., M. P. S., Ph. D., ECA, MLA, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Calgary-Bow

Dear Demetrios:

XVth Mayor Of Edmonton Joseph Andrew Clarke became Mayor serving 5 terms & also served 3 terms as an Alderman, he also regained the Mayor's Chair again for a Part 2. Clarke Stadium & the Clarke Athletic Grounds are named in his honour. Joseph ran in 27 municipal elections, more than anyone else. The record will hold up as the term length is 4 years now rather than 1, 2, or 3 years as it was in the past. Joseph worked with labour groups in a citywide strike to make sure emergency services were still staffed by some union members so as to prevent complete chaos in the city. Joseph also ran numerous times for provincial & federal office though never won.

71 Years & 310 Days,

Rory
