Mayors Galore-Cavanaugh: Part 2

Rory J. Koopmans, B. Admin., 15906-100A Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta T5P 0L8

September XXVth, MMXXV

Hon. Demetrios Nicolaides, B. A., M. P. S., Ph. D., ECA, MLA, Minister of Education, United Conservative, Calgary-Bow

Dear Demetrios:

Brought in for a Part 2 is XXIXth Mayor Of Edmonton Terence (Terry) James Cavanaugh. Again on an "interim" basis to fill the remainder of the term of Mayor Laurence Decore who went off to great success in Alberta Liberal provincial politics. I can remember getting to stand by Terry when he did the official ribbon cutting at The Dutch Canadian Club (which is located in The Peter Lougheed Multicultural Village by St. Albert Trail) for a windmill that had been installed. A man who enjoyed attending great cultural events & could say "vote for me" in what 15 languages, it was great to have Terry there as Mayor. Terry was just the perfect guy to have there on a reach out basis for whatever community situation he was thrown into. Twice being picked by colleagues to steer the ship showed just how respected he was. Advocating for the North Saskatchewan River Valley to be a park area showed how much Terry believed in conservation. After being defeated for Mayor by Jan Reimer, Terry contributed again greatly winning his old Council seat back three years later, a solid guy!

It Should Be Noted That I Took A Widow Friend Of Mayor & Mrs. Cavanaugh's To Mayor Cavanaugh's Funeral At St. Joseph's Basilica & Decided At The Last Minute To Stay Out Of Respect For Terry & June Cavanaugh Who Had Died The Year Before: The Lady I Drove Had A Ride Home: Glad I Did That,

Rory
