XXVIth Mayor Of Edmonton Elmer Ernest Roper was a politician, trades unionist, & businessman. Very adept at organizing, Elmer became a Cooperative Commonwealth Federation MLA & its Leader in the Legislative Assembly as the leader before Elmer stepped aside with Elmer's elected status. This experience was most invaluable in getting him into power as Mayor. Elmer has Roper Road & Roper Industrial Area named in his honour. To Elmer, being Chairman of The Edmonton Public School Board for a year gave him great into how politics work municipally, wisely dovetailing with his provincial experience. Elmer also enjoyed being in The Alberta Federation Of Labour.
