Dear Demetrios:

XIXth Mayor Of Edmonton James McCrie Douglas was a Strathcona Town Council member first, then won a federal byelection held when an MP died serving from MCMIX-MCMXXI as an MP gave James the fortitude to become an Edmonton Alderman, then Mayor & then back as an Alderman again. A four-decade career of true public service, this reminds me of the late great Alderman/Councilor Ron Hayter, just quality all around. James refused to let the Klu Klux Klan get group event permits for in Edmonton. He became a "strong-arm" Mayor in that crisis. James also served a 5 year term as a Magistrate in the Northwest Territories to look at improving the lives of Metis citizens. Something further worked on by Premier Donald Ross Getty, Progressive Conservative, Edmonton-Whitemud & Stettler. James did not care for the term "half-breed" in terms of calling that of Metis citizens but in MCMXXXVI that was considered acceptable & James wanted to change that as there were of course Metis living back in his home city of Edmonton.
